Whats up yall, just wanted to do a little mpc research. Also, wanted to know how the mpc 1000 is? First off, How many of yall use the mpc at all (I don't but but will be purchasin mine soon)? If so which one do you use (i.e. Mpc 60,1000,2000,2000xl,3000,4000)? What do you feel are the pros and cons with all of these?

i use an mpc2000xl, 32mb, it's the only one i ever used, i am very down with it, i don't think i will ever change, from sampling drums to making patterns it's dope.

I got a 2000xl and it is definitely tha' bomb! The 1000 is small and portable but can't mess with the 2000xl.

2000xl w/8 outs, one of my partners has a 3000 and the other a 2000. I like my xl better because that's what I learned on. The group had a MPC 60 back in '97, but I wasn't making beats then and didn't mess with it.

i gotta 1000, i use it mainly for drums. its got a warm sound and a great hands on feel.
Definitely not a "stand-alone" machine... for me, it's basically JUST my drums

i use 2000xl. It was the first thing i bought 3 months ago and its very powerful.

does anyone have the eb16 efffects card for the XL ,if so how is it

Damn this is an old thread, i posted this when i was first getting started. Anyway i have expanded my set up to a motif sound moudle and a m-audio 88es keyboard. But the MPC is still the centerpiece of my set up. IT is great. Im really feeling the MPC's sequncer and live drum programming.

I had a totally tricked out 2000 for about 2 years...it had the EXB FX card in there, and the boot rom....the fx are aight...you can do better externally post recording with software..the only diff between was the XL was it comes with ability to load sounds from the rom...not too much more..right now I use the MPC3000.....I actually started out on a 3000, about 5 years ago....and at that time I had a SP1200 and SP12.......MPC is the sickest machine out if you know how to use it..as with any other tool..not just for beat making but as the master sequencer for a setup that you need to sync a bunch of equipment on midi........thanks Roger Linn....I put a thread out with an interview with him a bout two months ago.....I keep using other methods...but I always come back to the mpc.....about 90% of people never tap into all of the feature etc.....back in the day producers were forced to figure out all kinds of tricks because they lacked software and exact loop cutting and crossfading tools....I had a S950(same sampling engine as the mpc60) which had all of those nice crossfade and truncation features you see in software....

Here you go man... If your just using it in the studio then the MPC 1000 is perfect... Because all the stuff the 4000 does and 1000 doesn't, can be done with software...like timestretch or reverse.... but it's a great beat machine and the sampler is fine for basics (you can change the note higher or lower and that will speed it up or slow it down to what you need) but what else is nice about it is that you can take it anywhere you want with you and that's nice because if you put any single voice (one note off the keyboard) from say any synth you can change the notes like it's a keyboard itself... and the USB hookup to your computer makes putting sounds into it easier than anything... Trust me the portability is something no other MPC could ever do... go with the 1000 (if your not doing live gigs with it) plus you could find used ones at music stores for like $600, lets see any other MPC do that too...
