For me it started with breakdancing and hearing "Tour De France". I didn't know back then that it was related to this thing called "Hip Hop", but it's what introduced me to the culture.

You?

For me it was my older brother Bobby's tape collection. I found a breakdancing tape "Nucleus" and I would put it into a flat tape-player and stick it under my pillow and play "Jam On It" over and over again. Until I fell asleep. Then later it was those tapes that he would make when he went back to NY for family that he recorded from the radio. I went to Japan at 15 and that cemented it.. my connection to America and myself.. hiphop is my culture.

My favorite line: Superman came up to me and said you rock so naturally... I can't remember the rest.

I'd heard rap and liked some of it, but the track that really made me sit up and say I FUCKING LOVE THIS was:

Forgot About Dre

I just loved the strings, the bass, Dre and Em doing their thing...I bought 2001, and What's The Difference got me hooked right in. By the time Next Episode came on, it was game over.

it was 2004, middle of the night, i was high and kanye west's school spirit was on the radio. I was like "WTF IS THIS?" I got the CD the next day and been hooked up relgiously eversince. After that I got into some heavier stuff but it was Kanye who got me into hip hop. (BTW Ima see Kanye live next wedensday for the first time, gonna be the best day of my life)

I fell in love with Hip Hop when I was in the 6th grade and only in Toronto from Jamaica for 4 years, the Fugee's came out with The Score and I have been in love and addicted since. if you have never listened to that album, it's a true classic and you should take some time to check it out, also if you have a chance, please feel free to check out my music and tell me what you think: http://www.gangyow.com/#!my-music/cx7z

I can't front....MC Hammer and Kris Kross was probably when i first got into it....

Same here. My mom wouldn't let me buy unedited albums back then LOL... Being from Louisiana, when I got a lil older, I was into anything/everything from No Limit and Cash Money. Master P - Ghetto D and Juvenile - 400 Degrees were probably the some of the first albums I owned.

My mom was hesitant to buy me Das EFX's new tape for Christmas. She said they looked scary:
