What does a Phantom 48V do?

I'm interested in knowing what the button on my mixer does that is named '' Phantom 48V '' , does anybody know?

Also before i'm told to read the manuel it is a tapco product so you should already know how they are when trying to explain things with them putting a comedy twist on everything, which puts me off checking.

I'm not familiar with your mixer but it sounds like it might be to turn phantom power for a mic on.

phantom buttons are usually for the mic or any thing that needs to be pre-amp

exactly what wizard said....lol...it means its phantom powered and its for "dead" microphones or mics that don't have a power source, when you push that button the mic comes to life! 48V is 48 volts.

Ive noticed that alot of companys are leaving the best part of their software pretty much on you to learn, they give the basics and thats it nowadays.

Mainly condensor mics use the P48v. Your standard Dynamic mic doesnt need any additional voltage as it conducts its own.

Thanks on all of the replys. It's good to finally know what it is for and does, as i've had the mixer for awhile and never really thought about it as it did'nt seem to do much when it was on or not.

In fact 48v phantom power can damage a dynamic. Don't turn it on unless you need to.,

yeah...thats what its for....i dont get nothing good out of my preamp if i dont turn it on
