maschine it is. although building tracks with that thing is like eating cookies without hands

I hear this a lot but I do all my arrangement within Maschine (still on 1.8) and then bounce the audio to mix in S1... To be honest I dont have a clue how to arrange in S1 as I've never needed to...
Find arranging in Maschine totally intuitive... Bring in a sample - chop it up - flip it - move to another scene - flip it again - bit of copy and paste - some stripping down and then chuck it into S1 for mixdown and vocals

What do you find problematic?

i mean, if you build a simple beat grid and take it out of the box for mixdown, then it's quite similar to working with an mpc. but that's the problem. it's 2014, and I want to record track mutes, automate track parameters and fx across scenes, and apply finishing touches to individual scenes in a final arrangemment run without changing those referenced scenes in another part of the beat. and there's a whole lot of other headaches maschine gives me (zero transparency of pattern length, no plug-in latency compensation etc etc). while some of these problems were addressed in 2.0, they also managed to destroy some good concepts, and it's still not what it ought to be. whereas an mpc compensates you with other qualities for its limitations. right now it's all ableton for me. but I'm curious about what maschine 2.5 will bring. a fully-blown song mode, where everything you do on the controller is recorded to your arrangement in real-time is what this thing should have. add a bounce button for batch exporting track waves, boom.
