Warning Explicit Lyrics ???

Ok peeps, here's something that has been bothering me from day 1. How effective is labeling a CD with a "warning explicit lyrics label"? Holla back if you feel differently...

1. Most kids that listen to rap music have enough sense to fill in the blanks and beeps so who is really being fooled? I mean todays kids are on computers in the first grade.

2. Parents don't have any control over what they're kids listen to when they are away from them. What if the kids best friends listen to uncut versions?

3. I, being a parent myself, want my child to always be in a constructive and positive enviroment but to think that my child won't hear explicit lyrics in a song is just plain stupid and I'm not fooling anyone but myself.

4. Adding that little sticker/label cost me as a comsumer more money for the product.

5. Here's one that truely amazes me...We say that we have the freedom of speech but we reserve the freedom of being heard?

6. I hear more curse words on basic T.V. than on the radio. Even on cartoons!

Being a Producer, I focus more on the music and very little on the lyrics but I do try to feel the rappers expression. I just have a hard time convincing myself that those littles labels are worth the effort.

holla back,--dac

Those warnign labels are a feel good technics, it give the labels something to say so it seems like they are doing something to protect the children. Just like the R or PG warnings for movies, or the disclaimer at the beginning of a T.V. show. If a parent is buying a CD for their child , they can see that label and put that Cd back. And get Will or Nick Cannon CD. So the parent won't get outraged if they buy a CD full of cuss word and not know it. But the children and us we know what we gettin.
Not matter what goes on in the world , you have to have the most influence on your seed. Businesses do stuff like the advisory label and all that to keep the heat off they back for the negatives images they pimp to make money.

ummmmm... . not quite sure what good the labels do, although a will smith cd is FAR less offensive than, say, eminem. i highly doubt will smiths cd's are "full of cuss words"..... or anything else that the rest of the industry is talking about. not that the ugy is a saint, but he certainly has a bit more class (and the ego to accompany it) then a lot of other people....

as far as i know these businesses would rather not include a label of any kind, as this gives them a bad image. to my knowledge they are required to have them based on certain criteria.

as for me and my house, i will have the final say in what gets played and when, as well as what doesnt. that includes cartoons, movies, t.v. shows, pretty much all media outlets as well as clothing, etc.....

like it or not, these things influence our kids, they influence us, i mean someone famous will do something that you do and get clowned for, but he will cause everyone to lose their friggin mind and and start doin it and think its cool.... the labels themselves do nothing, and in my opinion are kind of a waste of democracy (we have tipper gore to thank for this..) and the real issue is what we choose to allow our kids to be exposed to. they have their friends, they have their schools and so many outside influences, but it really comes down to the home. broken/undisciplined home=broken/undisciplined person REGARDLESS OF WHAT ELSE THEY GET EXPOSED TO..... generally.

although it is up to the parents, why is it that the artists dont take more responsibility for what they put out? its so easy to blame the parents, just like it is easy to place blame on the artist, neither of which is fair at all. especially when half these guys had messed up lives, no father (or an abusive one) in the home to guide them, you would think they would be more careful about what they say and do beacuse they DO HAVE INFLUENCE. tell me, if you have unloving parents, parents that dont keep tabs on what you are doing listening to, on meth, crack, h, whatever, who is going to controll what you listen to?[

Sure the stickers seem meaningless and actually they only helped sell CD's back in the day, because the explicit label only made people want to hear the CD...I even heard people applying these stickers to CD's with no cursing etc

No doubt soundboy2, the ultimate responsibility lies on the parents. I just hope that we as parents aren't being blinded by the fact that our kids are gonna hear uncensored material and the fact that they know whats being beeped on the censored versions.

Truth, I'm feeling your response. You seem to be one of the few people that have a good grasp on life, music, and the many issues that we see here. Thanks!

Cope, I never heard that people were applying those labels to promote sells...but I can easily see how it would work. We don't leave any rocks unturned...lol. I would almost admire the person that had that idea if it were'nt bull*ish...hahaha

to tell you the truth, you sticker are meaningless and you can thank my state, the good ol' state of FLorida for Fing up another moment in history... the stickers came about becuz of Luke Campbell of 2LiveCrew, the state of florida just wanted to ban their music, but the freedom of speech stopped that from happen, so inturn, they said if you can't stop them, with just hold them back or limit them to who they can sell their music too... and i know this from first hand, becuz my teacher in college directed the "Ban in the USA" video and tell us the and show us his pass the the MTV VMAs.... lucky guy, he said he'll give me a discount on my first music video, lucky me....

Yeah I remember that whole ordeal with Luke and the 2 Live Crew. I always wondered what happened to that black/chinese lookin dudes arm. It seemed like they would come out with an album with him on it in a cast and 2 years and 3 albums later, they come out with another one and his arm was still in cast...lol. Anyway, good luck when you do make it to making videos, just remember a bro and your peeps at ILLMUZIK.
