Dilla has cult following because of his untimely death, IMO..

I voted for Pete Rock....

yeah that's part of it, but I remember a lot of kids saying Dilla was top 5 (ever) before he passed away ... of course this is debatable. I voted for Pete because : 1/ he had a longer career 2/ he's been extremely consistent 3/ brought major innovations 4/ always stayed underground , never sold out, a true hip hopper ... dilla had a good career , just not as great as Pete's

ok...so the Mass Appeal section is pretty much garbage. I'll go w/ Swizzie.
Homegrown- I guess I'd have to go w/ Dre out of a lack of options.
Soul Sample and Boom Bap are where the real producers are.
Soul Sample should end w/ Just Blaze and Pete Rock. No disrespect to J Dilla but Pete Rock is better.
And Pete Rock should win but it's not as big a blowout as people might think. Pete Rock just has more classics under his belt...but Just Blaze is a beast.
And of course in the Boom Bap category it will be DJ Premier vs The Rza. And predictably I'm goin w/ The Rza even though I know everyone is gonna say Premo. They are 1&2 in my book anyway so I won't be too upset either way. But if you know me...you know my type a beats are Rza joints!
This was definitely a cool bracket though.

Is it me, or is alot of dillas stuff offbeat in a way that would make the rest of us go back and use quantize???
Sometimes I feel I must be going mad because though Dilla was a sho nuff talent I dont understand the hype.
Most ,if not all, of Donuts , to me, sounded like unfinished ideas. Which , if so, I can respect it a lil more, but lots of his beats just sound like they are full of mistakes, perhaps thats the appeal, but if so then I should be HUGE if I just turn my quantize off.
I know Im prolly steppin out of line to mention this but am I alone here?

Anyway there is some good educational facts on there about the producers I see, good ish.

To me, its boiling down to 'who's more popular' rather than 'who's the best'...a couple of those cats shouldn't even be in the ELITE 8 based on being 'the best' imo. But the whole breakdown has been fun watching how it is unfolding.

I don't see how Dilla beat pete rock...

But..that's just my opinion...

I think Primo still got RZA beat......mainly because of what Primo has done with other artists as opposed to RZA.

Preemo's been the most consistent producer in Hip Hop for a long long time, and all in all I think he's the best ever. I used to like RZA a lot but he never had the same consistency, he made a lot of crap no one can't deny that.

....oh and Dilla beating Pete Rock , that's some BS lol , people need to listen to T.R.O.Y again (I don't think many youngsters know that track tho)

I think Premo would take that one hands down. you?

I think alot of cats jumped on the dilla wagon more as a respect thing. Dilla was good, no denying that but he wasn't on PR's level. PR and Premo would be a tough one to me. Thats why I said its starting to look like a popularity contest now.
