Velocity Problem

Alright, the way I'm doing this is that I do everything in FL besdies the mixing which I do in Sonar. I make the beat and then export the channels into Sonar and then load them up into Sonar. Now when I do this with the kick for example, the levels starts out at actually 0 but it doesn't get "hot". This has been messing with my mixes lately cuz I can't add any good EQ without compressing it a lot which messes up the sound. So I went back into FL and tried to find out what was up and I saw that my velocities for all my sounds, MIDI and Audio, were maxed out so I was guessing that was the reason why. I just wanted to know what you guys usually set your velocities to before you export the files?

I don't touch velocities much and I don't know why yours are maxed out, but I don't think that's your problem. Doesn't velocity just make the hit harder or softer as if you hit the key/pad that way. What effects are you using on these tracks? I've heard some of your songs and they sound good so I'm assuming this is a new occurrence.

IMO if you're using samples anyways, they have most likely already been EQ'd. Especially with drums, when it comes to changing the sound, less is more.

Oh, and bumping posts is annoying.

But the thing is when I record with my MIDI controller in FL, I go hard on the keys and it picks up the velocity of each note so there isn't a way I can't mess with the velocities and when I set my velocites to the same throughout, it makes the loop sound bad.

I'm trying to EQ the track but before I do the levels on the track are already around like -0.2 so it's hard for me to EQ the lows, mids, or highs on it without it clipping and I'm guessing it's like that because of the velocities the track has and since I can't EQ them they make my sounds sound corny or thin ya know what I'm saying?

I'm doin all the composing on my beats and my bad about the bump, I just needed an answer.

I haven't used my controller in a while, but I'll hook it up to look at the velocities. Are you using the MPD16?
