To say people have been waiting for this release with baited
breath would be an understatement. Vast Aire who is the other
half of Cannibal Ox has done nothing but smash everything he
has touched since the release of the debut album
' The Cold Vein'
(On NY based label Def Jux) with accomplice in rhyme Vordul.
He now presents us with his debut solo album and with it he
does not fail to impress once again. With production from the
likes of Madlib, RJD2, Da Beatminerz, Camu Tao and Ayatollah
you can tell this album is going to be some what of a landmark
in the sphere of Hip Hop. This is a classic album in the making
there is no mistaking that, Vast is known for his honest and
lyrical take on life and you really get a sense of a finished and
varied album. You've got guest appearances from Sadat X,
Breeze brewin, Mf Doom and Aesop Rock to name but a few,
so you know with a line up like that this L.P. will deliver.
But enough of the garnish… What can you expect to hear from
this album? Well if you are unfamiliar with this Mc be prepared
for some banging tunes with a gritty lyrical content.
I said before there is a lot of variation on this album, as you
would imagine from such a wide range of producers.
Its interesting to hear the different styles of beats along side
each other. If you are a fan already you will not be disappointed
either. To my knowledge this is all pretty much hot of the vinyl
press so to speak, with the exception of the odd track or two its
definitely no rip of as far as content is concerned
(e.g. wait for an album to come out only to find you got all the
tunes on 12" already).
It might not be to everyone's taste but I am convinced if you
gave this a spin down at your local music emporium you would
be adding it to your crate quicker than an original copy of
Critical Beat Down, well, maybe not that fast but pretty fast
any way.
This is 100% quality you miss this and you miss out…
