Use 2 soundcards at the same time?

I´m updating my computer and so getting a new mainboard. It has an integrated soundchip. I was wondering if I could use both soundcards simultaneously? For mixing and recording it would be nice to have a 2nd one from time to time since my soundcard has just 1 i/o. I run Windows XP and all IRQs and DMAs have been assigned properly. What do you think?

Bad idea. Those cards are basically rubbish, the internal clock is a joke, if you want to do multitrack recording (I'm assuming that's what you want to do with two cards) your tracks will all be out of sync. Plus, the quality of the recording through the integrated card will be if a much lower quality than your other card.

Just curious, what is your other card?

I can tell you that it all depends on your motherboard, but you can not run an internal sound chip in conjuction with a sound card...you will be using basically the same IRQ's, DMA's and I/O ports and can cause some serious conflicts in your system. I don't recommend using them at the same time. Even if you seperately assign new values to them...they are most likely to reconfigure themselves with XP. Good luck if you do try.
