the best uk hiphop ive heard is that herbaliser song featuring two rappers who rap about how marijuana should be legal n shit.

and there some other good shit ive heard too. i kinda like those drunk/carefree sounding Mcs you have over there. hella relaxing to listen to.

i like drum n bass but i dunno if any of what ive heard is from the uk or not.

no disrespect to the english heads

but i was in the uk in jan and it seems like the are just wanna clones of ameican hip hop(their main stream).

THe so solid crew shit was ok but they seem to be more drum and bass. I think UK dancehall is going to have a bigger impact then their hip hop as far as mainstream is concerned.

and wtf is up with the Dudes wareing TIGHT JEANS WTF!!!?!?!???!? lol

tight jeans lol classic i know what you are talkin bout, lol i see that shit everyday. i dont wear no tight jeans tho, i think it looks gay.

the uk scene is really getting better. 'phi life cypher' , thats the rappers messenger was talkin about, they have been here for a very long time. they are really dope but for some reason they are only smashin the underground. klashnekoff is nice too, but i dont like jehst, he sounds like he got a cold or sumtin when he raps. most of the rappers here jus tend to clones us acts, but there are some heavy rappers who are doing they own thing, like my man capriciouz at www.corruptvillagerecords.co.uk .

good lookin on the link afric

Yo dude has rhying skills but he sounds like he is american. I know for a fact that balck people over their dont sound like that. ITs like he is trying to supress his accent. Why?? I noticed a lot of underground rappers doing that when i was there.

I meat some cool as peoples from brixtion with thick south london accents.(which was cool as fuck casue i never heard black folk with english acceents). They are talkin normal and everything but then when we get in the freestyle session they all tried to sound american. One dude said he pratices more tying to loose his accent then the actual lyrics. I think yall need an artist who is not afraid to rep where they are from instread of trying to sound like someone else

Whats do u think afrique???

dont get me wrong the south went threw the same thing. before it was cool to be from the south niggas down here with thick southern accents would try and sound like they were from newyork back in 96'

I totally know what you mean Classic, but it doesn't really suprise me. UK Hiphop hasn't been around for too long, and is still growing.

I think alot of UK MC's (especially London MC's) sound American because all they listen to is American hiphop, so it's not much of a surprise when they come out sounding like the guys they've been listening to.

So Solid Crew - they're garage with a bit of hiphop and RnB. Garage is really big in London along with hiphop.

The thing about UK hiphop (in my opinion) is that nearly all of it is underground. Like in America there's a good balance between commercial acts and underground, but in UK it's more like all underground.

Not many guys are producing music that has that commercial sound to it, it's more a dark jazzy sound thats coming out.

Names to look out for:

Herbaliser
Fallacy & Fusion
Roots Manuva
Ice Berg Slimm
Ty
Rodney P
Klashnekoff

OH yeah, guys wearing tight jeans and baseball caps are called townies LOL

good info Delay, I will look out for those names. DO they have albums out??

By they way i loved the UK. i love the fact that race is not really a big deal there. Crime isent a problem their either(by US standards) so u really dont gotta worry about gettin robbed or shot unless your doing something u shouldent be doing.

townies huh somebody needs to tell em to let their nuts breath lol

those townies need to bugger off!! (lol did i say that right??)

yeah the whole accent thing is the only let down. but the accent thing doesnt only happen in hiphop, look at the spice girls for example, dont they sing in an american accent? or jamiroquai..?

good point. its that record companies think that most americans can't stand a british accent........which is true. i personally like to hear different accents but the masses don't.

wait a minute....i know i haven't been around much lately because afrique is speaking in a language i understand. no crazy abbreviations and slang....lol

As for hip hop Killa Kela is the hottest thing to ever come out of the UK....I havent heard him rap but i know he's the sickest beatboxer ive ever heard!!

I played a show with him at The Guvernment here in Toronto. He's got madd skills. Aparently he's got a rap crew but I haven't heard them. Big ups to Kela.....He's been doin work with Pharell and the neptunes by the way. Cant wait to hear it....

Hahaha, thats the stuff, theyre little punks. For rap with a British accent check out The Streets, I'm not feeling him too much, but he's pretty big over here. As for people sounding american I guess people wouldn't come out sounding very "street" if they came out witha queens english accent, but then again anything too regional doesn't tend to flow as well, and can exclude people who don't understand it. Defo check out Roots Manuva, he's way underrated.

i think it's a case of diamonds in the rough, it is a very small scene, not followed by many at all in comparrison to other genres, and on top of that there is a big amount of shit in the scene but still there is definatly some talent starting to come through. like someone said, you need to look out for klashnekoff, his album 'the sagas of klashnekoff' is about to be release so peep that if you can, but there's other talent still, look out for kyza, yungun, taskforce (chesta p and farma g), universal soldiers, out da ville, mud family, to name a few.
the scene is growing by the day over here, and im sure it wont be long till you peeps from other countries start to feel it as it progresses. as for the american accents, that is a problem with uk hip hop, but you have to understand there is two sides to uk hip hop, the side which is really soundin ill but keeping it underground, and the side which is full of cats who just wanna get a deal anyway they can, even if it means putting on a fake american accent just to appeal to labels and sales more. but everyone knows them fools are wack anyway, they dont get no love from the streets over here, only from people who dont know any better.

but i do think the uk hip hop underground side will in a way work in conjunction with the US underground scene eventually, with more collabs and stuff. i've recently heard some underground uk shit on some US underground mixtapes which is a real good sign for us, it seems that they are feeling phi life cypher, heard their joints on a couple of mixtapes.

Skitz man, his beats are heavy,

but it seems british hip hop is all about the "DMC" style in my eyes, people like craze are tearing it up, im not a fan of that style, but the undeground style is definatley taking off, and people like it, it seems the "traditional hip hop fans" or what should be, if we are adhering to american standards listen to ukg, it seems to be the students who follow the underground scene. Hip hop over here also goes hand in hand with drum and bass. it is the new breed of producer in this country that will change hiphop over here, once we have established a style of our own, and the emcees,(who quiet often cross over to dnb themselves) feel it, and an relate to it....

he london scene is the cheesiest, the northern emcees are repping it at the mo...Jehst is on fire!

LOL ! you're getting there already ! Fcukin' townies are everwhere over here !

Yea like has already been said the UK is almost totally underground, with the exception of Dizzee Rascal whos started to come throught to the mainstream, The only other people i can remember seeing in the charts are the streets who aren't really hip hop but i think its cool what hes doing, hes on of the only people with an english accent whos not afraid to show it everything about his music is british ! oh and big brovaz haha who are a like a rapping n-sync ! oh and Roots manuva who is dope !
Theres quite a few big names underground, jehst, klasnekoff (sp?), taskforce, hebaliser etc etc thought im not that big fan of most of the Uk underground stuff ! Then theres UK garage, so solid crew etc which im not a fan of and i spose you have got d'n'b which is quite big over here and the UK artists are as good as any, check out roni size ( reprezent ) ! I know he did a songs with method man and zach de la roca (sp?) ( the guy out of rage against the machine ) on one of his albums i got !
The only UK producer ive known make it over in the US is adam F who is a uk d'n'b producer but did an album called Kaos where he did tracks with.. redman, CNN, MOP, Lil Mo, LL, Beenie man, de la soul , guru, pharoahe monch probably somemore aswell !
