shit, i've been out of it for a bit, didn't even know they were making their own official ssl 4000 series emu let alone got the permission.

has anyone here who uses uad plugs tried either the buss compressor or the channel strip? i may enact the demo sooner than later a i don't have any spare cash to take advantage of this months deals/coupons (goddamn these effed up times) but it will be easier to re-activate the 14 day demo again in the future if there's an above average deal or it involves the plug.

buss comp=$199 (before coupons or vouchers)
channel strip=$249 (same as above)

curious to hear all the inevitable shootouts between this, waves, ssl duende, urs, and the real thing that will no doubt flood places like gearslutz.

Too lazy to go look it up... UAD plugs use the DSP PCI cards right?

finished last year at harris institute. it's one of the oldest ones and the most respected in canada, it's also the cheapest. the sheer amount of grads over the years in or running the biz is crazy, but no guarantees. the schedule is heavy and hectic and because all the faculty are still working in the industry, classes will be canceled and rescheduled if an instructor has to do their real job. check the website for the faculty, go for the tour, bob (roper) will tell you straight up the hard road with absolutely no guarantees, as well as, telling you that if you find work before schools done, take it, eff school. it's best resource is contacts, and despite what some believe, some studios, post/music/etc won't accept interns that haven't been to some sort of school or course.

metalworks is another one, expensive though, but the studio itself is world renown. can't comment on the actual school and it's new to the world of education. they have open house tours as well

trebas...one of the oldest, one of the worst consistently. has a bad rep for not teaching the important things or basics to their students. reading their facebook page for students and alumni was funny as hell (how they explained it) for the amount of bs they had to endure i.e. school running out of money so they drop course for that term and steer the students to another course. even old faculty have some serious stories. it's really down to the admin, specifically the owner, how should never be trusted (you may find out how he started his school). my advice, stay away. not that you can't excel and get a job, the dude running the shit and sessions at cherry beach studio is a trebas grad, but the place holds bitter memories from alumni (never asked the dude how he felt about trebas). the dude will constantly tell you to come on a tour, he seems nice at first, later it will come as desperation.

fanshawe. i think the oldest and well respected. both owners of harris and trebas came from there as teachers and students if i remember correctly. don't know any details. expensive?

there's a couple more, either attached to media/radio/telecommunications at regular college or a specific audio school (i can't remember the name)

check them out and call studios and major/indie labels/tv stations/etc for their feelings on a particular school, especially alumni. all schools offer both technical (studio/production/live sound/etc) and/or business (publishing/licensing/a&r/etc)

more importantly, they all qualify for osap, but check to find out if it's full or partial. plus scholarships and bursaries (harris has a bunch due to their anniversary, which weren't there last year when i was there)
