a combination of trial and error help from people off hear, LISTENING! ( very important people often forget this) listen to anything it doesnt have to be hip hop find out what you like and find out why you like it what makes it good what makes it sound the way it does, to start with you will always need to copy someone of some sort but you will never imitate them perfectly and as you improve you'll develop your own sound, also get to know your software or hardware and learn as much theory etc as you can !
