Too many people think they can "produce"? Are there too many wannabes?

My notion of a 'wannabe' is someone who doesn't want to do the 'work' but wants the success associated with hard working paying off

I can't agree that all of us on this site or anyone else for that matter is a 'wannabe' because they haven't made big time status; is a household name or whatever you want to call it. There are mad cats unheard of and heard of that can destroy many of the so called big time household name producers currently out now. All that glitter and glamour doesn't mean a thing to me, knowledge skills, ability and passion to do the work mean a lot more. If you have all of those qualities your not a 'wannabe' in my book. Just my two cents.

wan·na·be [ wónnəbee ] (plural wan·na·bes)

noun

somebody emulating somebody else: somebody who is trying to be like another person or to belong to a particular group.

So, you see we're all wanna-bes til the day we become trendsettaz, it is what we do in this stage that separates us, as "people who think they can produce" or "people who take time to perfect their ish to become the ish".
I think that easily available software allows new art forms and explorations into the future of new genres of music ex. reggaeton, i know theres a lot to sort through, but i bet out of the thousands there are few out there who means business, it is only up to us when we find them we support them.

-This is my 2 cents, you can keep the change :dj:

to be honest, i think there are several advantages to people trying to get into producing. i mean, it gives us a lot more competition to compete with and i think it eventually makes us better in the long-term. i completely agree with afriquedeluxe about those people quitting when they find something difficult, etc. you can separate the true beatmakers/producers to the ones that just hop on the bandwagon

I Have been making beats for three years since I was eleven, and it's about to go on four now.I found out everything in making a beat.Like the tempo,I didn't know what the hell that was when I was younger but,all this time I have been teaching my self,...it pays-off in the long run.I makin money now,and so far as considering myself as A producer,I'm really A producer/up and coming engineer/rapper I don't rap too much but, when I do write something,i'm real good at it.I have did many beats for some record labels like ''Do It Big Ent.'' and "Y.B.P.P.",I'm out---PEACE---

I appreciate your comments. I think it's great to see so much vigour in production these days.

I don't think it affected major label releases, because there is filtration involved in the process. But I think that easy access to these programmes, make it hard to "break in" for people who are aspiring to become involved in the music business. That's because a lot of people are turned off by the large amount of solicited recordings that are done at home and end up taking an executive's time and causes frustration..

hmm. i understand what youre saying but you used the word solicited recording.now solicited means like you called and A&R and were like i wanna send you this or you had a laywer or a manager walk in for ya. which noones gonna walk youre stuff in if it sucks.now unsolicited material is where you just send demos out to labels hoping theyll just call you back which no matter how dope you are youre stuff wont prolly aint get'n heard.Which you cant blame on software cause people that suck usually are also lazy and just sit at there pc and upload stuff allday from acidpro.plus since theres been 4 tracks its been like that people would send in cassettes so i dont think its gotten worse if you look away fromm the tons of online garbage But thats my opinion.

First and most importantly...everyone deserves the right to express themselves, whether they are good or not is only a matter of opinion so as for your friends comment, well, maybe you should be careful who you call your friend. You DO have a reputation to uphold being the universal entity that you are...lol...j/p. But seriously, there can never be too many producers in the game. The benefits of software products are obviously the ease of use and the money saved to do production work but it is still only as good as the person operating it and the same applies to hardware users. The more people involved in production, the better the chances of finding new talent. Having more people producing raises the standard. The benefits just go on and on and outweigh the downfalls by far.

I feel like this...If anyone wants to put their standards on someone else, they should be at the very top of THE game (notice I said THE game, not THEIR game) and the only person that I know that is able to do that isn't here anymore...( your son! ) Sorry, I can't help it :) . So whats the definition of "a producer"? One that makes NO wack beats? One that knows EVERTHING that concerns music? NO! A producer is one that prepares his music for the public.

One more thing to ponder...weren't we all "wanna be's" at some point? We had to start somewhere. --NUFF SAID--
