I'm not a drummer at all so it's kinda hard for me to place some toms with the drums and make it sound realistic and good at the same time. I'm not sure where you place them using FL. I got them as 8th notes going high to low, but that still sounds kinda weird when I play it back. Any help on this to get that real feel to it?

AHA!!! See this is the problem with software!! HAHA!!!
With hardware you can just bang those things out!!!
But hardware fan that I am aside, the panning technique is a good idea.
Also our just gonna have to play with that placement of the toms.
With FL it shouldnt be hard at all just play with it.
Yall want me to do a bunch of Tom rolls or somthing for yas to sample?

Haha yeah, I was gonna use some toms for my Beat This beat but I can't get it to sound realistic so I might just ditch that.

But I'll try the panning. But I'm more focused on the actual placement of the notes.

Relic, you're right. That's where hardware has the advantage. I got a MPD16, but the thing is that the pads on it are so stiff that it's kinda hard to bang out anything lol and my keys are weighted and makes it hard to roll it.

I'll give it another shot tonight.

I'm a drummer, so I'll give it a try. Actually, it's not that hard to make a tom rolls. Take 2 or three toms. One hi tom, one mid tom and one low tom. Pan the toms so that the hi tom is more to the left (not totally to the left, just a tad) the low should be to the right (same thing... just a tad) and the mid can be kept in the center.

Now, for the toms placement, they are mostly used to make breaks, even if you can put them else where and use them as percussions (like bongos and the such)... now, the thing is, there is no real rule to place the toms, but here's what I could suggest:

(H: HI TOM M: MID TOM L: LOW TOM S: Snare)

The easiest tom roll is :
- - - - - - - - - - H H M M L L
and you can start the next pattern with a cymbal
or
S S S S H H H H M M M M L L L L (with the cymbal...)

If you want to have a more natural sound, you can also change the velocity of each hits like so...

S s s s H h H h M m M m L L L L (with the cymbal...) (S for Snare)

then you can always make it so your tom placement accompany your beat... as for anything else, experiment makes perfect!!!
