A thought to ponder...Since there's always talk of people stealing beats...I'm a little curious. Hypathetically speaking...If one of the hottest producers out there like P Diddy, Babyface, Dre or whoever inspires you the most stole one of your beats...Would you NOT feel even the slightest bit honored that your beat was so HOT that they had tosteal it?

just curious--dac

I would feel honored, yet at the same time probably disappointed. I would want full credit since it was my beat, don't care if I don't get any loot, but give me the credit as the producer. One!

It wouldn't make me feel honorable. There ain't much honor in someone stealing something from you. I would feel amped though. I wouldn't look at it any different from a "noname" jackin your beat.

If someone has to jack your beat because they can't make one as hot as yours, its just more proof that you are good. I feel like Rob-Les. Some of us are doing this for nothing more than credit and to have that stolen from you is phuktup.

honor? who cares who steals it; it got stolen. period. anyone who steals your work must think you were good enough to jack, wether they are succesful or not. matter of fact, for a more established artsit to steal from me would be more telling of their lack of talent than my abundance of it. plus it would make me wonder how many of their tracks they actually did themselves, and how many got jacked.

If Dre stole my beat I would feel honored. I mean shit it just got stolen so I'd have to think as positive as possible. Then I'd make another one just as good or if not better, eventually. But, overall, I WOULD BE PISSED!

well

I sent some tracks to rockland last year, and I'll be damned if r kelly isnt using the same melodies, horn riffs, etc on the chocolate factory.

I played if for a few different industry people that I know, and they agreed, but also said that he changed the pitch, tempo, etc...in other words altered it just enough to for me not to have a copyright infringement case. Then I was told he did the same thing, and got sued, when he produced "you are not alone" for michael jackson.

I wasnt really pissed, but I wasnt happy either. And yeah, it validated that I'm doing something right. I'm not worried about it though, because I believe in karma. :barf:

Yeah that is sad because even if you alter the hi hat pattern a little or mute 1 track and change the pitch its altered, there is a thin line between a copyright case I think, but if they use even play a close interpolation of a melody in conjunction with a similiar pattern you might have a case if you can prove they possibly stole it........bottom line is copyright any and everything you record if you let any other ears besides yours hear it or have a demo or copy, like I said in another thread the top producers that are in demand get ideas from lower in the feeding chain producers more than you think especially if they have like 5 or 6 projects they are possibly making tracks for at a time...so beware always cover your self as much as possible because theft does happen......I even heard a top producer ( I wont mention names)say that he went to play a track at a listening session and they didn't like his beat and he could swear that someone got their hands on his demo and they took it to their son or someone and they had a track they used that bit the demo he used and was going to charge them big time for....
