The overall sound of your beats

When i've finished making a beat i've noticed that when the 3D feature on my monitors (or any speakers) is on, that my beat has the sound that i want but as soon as i turn it off the beat becomes much more duller and quieter.
Does anyone know how to mix their beat so that it sounds the same (has the same feeling) on their monitors as it does when the 3D feature on?

I use FL Studio, Soundforge/Adobe Adition and samples. Any knowledge is appreciated.

for real? i mean i listen to certain producers like preme, 9th and pete rock in 3D and without it, but their shit sounds the same in both. also it can't be because they master their stuff 'cos i've heard alot of un-mastered music and thats has the same effect with and without 3D. any ideas why?

This is correct. Mix, master, EQ, and use effects with your regular speakers on flat while trying to achieve the sound you want. If it sounds good on regular speakers on low volume, it'll sound good with "3D"...

You may want to try adding a touch of reverb the the final mix in the Master mixing board. You can just insert the Fruity Reeverb and adjust the level to the sound you're looking for. Also, you can look for other reverb plugins that have presets (e.g., Drum Room, Stage, etc.)

It's like this..

90 % of the people hear ur shit on crappy old little radio systems.. without 3d. So u want them to hear the shit correctly right? So when ur mixing on your 3d speakerset.. Those people will hear the none 3d version, which will sound crappy because u didn't pay any attention to the regular stereo image...

So listen to your shit on your speakers, then on a old boom box or tape deck or whatever and see if it's good, if it sounds good on all of them, then ur mix is good..

I have been to more than a few label meetings and here is the thing, you might walk in and they have the banging stereo system in their office and on their desk is this little piece of shit boom box, so you give them the cd and you are like I cant wait to blow this office up on that nice system he has in here and then he leans over and pops open the piece of shit boom box, sticks your beat cd in and turns the volume up!!!! , WTF LOL....but your goal is to permanently damage his piece of shit so no one else will be subjected to that nonsense, you should be shaping your sound thru a very good monitor system or using a POS boom box as a reference to get your mix right so no matter where you play it the result is one...a good mix and 2...a look on a project ha......I been doing this for awhile, although mixing is not rocket science, it takes practice if you use the same instruments and sounds over and over its not as much of a big deal though.....but the bottom line here is who really cares about a 3d mix in that situation????

I agree, you probably found out by now that when using somewhat equal frequency sounds like kick and bass then with out panning you will have to sacrifice either the e.g. kicks or the bass. but with pannings the kick and bass to slightly offset the centre in different directions then you should notice a huge difference on how you can bring out the bass or the kick so they dont clash with each other. usually I would only do this to my bass and kick though if it really was the type of sound i was looking though for to. but usually i will do that to mid frequency sounds to bring out that 3d effect but only slightly so the beat doesn't actually sound to much off centre.

mixing first with my headphone then with monitor speakers to check if its BOUNCING gives me a good result.forget your 3d shit trust your ear in real situations.

Nice any more advice when you cant get your kick just right and no matter what you do it either is buried in the mix or distorting noticably?

Ok if it's buried in the mix, or distorting noticeably, then I will assume that you're using some mastering plug in. I could be wrong, but that's usually the case on this problem.

I've said this about 15 times on this forum before and I'll say it again and again:
DON'T MIX WITH THE ULTRAMAX THE WHOLE TIME.

Get a good mix FIRST. You want the mix to be YOURS. You don't want the Ultramaximizer to mix it FOR you.

If you DID mix it with a crazy amount of ultramax goin on, then you could be overpowering your mix without knowing it. You turn up the kick, and the vocals get too low. You turn down the kick and the vocals are too loud. It's a pain in the ass that will never work itself out until you get a good mix without your stereo compression/limiting.

Ok, Relic... if I'm wrong about you using too much ultramax, then the next step is to use EQ. You may wanna double your kick and find different samples to layer on top of it. You may wanna EQ it so that the kick and bass have their own spot in the low end. You may wanna take a break from your mix and really listen to some other CDs on the same system so that you get a feel for the sound of other producers/mix engineers.
