I'm surprised no one has mentioned this new gear yet.

First off, this is really interesting. It's obvious that Pioneer took some ideas (a lot, really) from Native Instruments, but that's because NI's layout of Maschine is tight. But the TORAIZ SP-16 (terrible name, btw) is a stand-alone unit! That's dope.

Now I now some people will prefer to use a controller like Maschine with their computer, but for some, a stand-alone unit is the way to go. It's not necessarily for full productions, but I can easily see many beatmakers using it for just jotting down ideas wherever they are.

With that being said, here's some features:
  • Create up to 256 patterns using the 16-step sequencer
  • 7-inch full-colour touch screen with detailed sample information
  • Multicoloured Performance Pads with Velocity Mode
  • 16-track real-time playback engine
  • Amp envelope and time stretching
  • 8GB flash memory
  • Dave Smith high-pass and low-pass filters
  • Pro DJ Link and MIDI clock for synced one-shots and patterns
  • Touch strip with Pitch Bend
  • Comes with 2GB of Loopmasters sounds already on board
What do you think? Would you cop a stand-alone sample/sequencer?
