yeah, consistent partying gets you to the chics sooner or later, no matter how poor your game is. talking from experience here lol

edit: interesting how fast this threads uncomfortable issue got replaced with alcohol and one night stands. repression tactics haha

Materialism is a tool to dumb us down and to take our eyes off of the ball.
While we are wrapped up in sports, debts, pursuits of wealth and bling, and of owning stuff, we are forgetting about everything else, family, community, real world issues, anything that affects others and not yourself.
Materialism breeds selfishness, hence the decline in societies morals and welfare.
People are so intent on being "Rich and famous" that they dont have the time for others.
Advertising is brainwashing to buy a product, nothing less.
Our want to own everything just makes those that sell it to us much richer, while we live in debt trying to front a life of success. I see it all the time in my delivery job.
A Merc on the front drive, but open the door to the house and theres no carpet, wallpaper falling off the walls, kids filthy, dirt all over the walls and light switches but as long as the Merc is on the drive thats all that matters to them.
Advertising is so powerful, we all succumb to its influence.
But to see the beast you have to know the beast first, otherwise you are simply oblivious to it all, and another consumer putting money into the pockets of the banks as we indebt our selves to get the latest must have fashion item, be it a pitbull, flash car, jewellery or whatever.
People need to wake the fuck up and realise whats really important in the world, we will all very shortly be finding that out for ourselves, but the hard way.

^^ Very true, 2good.

You bring up a good point about family. I've noticed the past few years how bad it's become within my very own family. Relatives that don't keep in touch, people within my family that are very sick or even worse, dying, and people still don't go see them in the hospital! Everyone says "I don't have time" for this or that, that's not true. I see people every single day rushing. Constantly rushing. Instead of standing on the escalator, they walk or run up, others push their way in such a hurry to get to their destination.

Where are they going? They finally get home all stressed out, still claiming they have no time for anything, and yet they find time to watch 5 hours of TV each night. Family values have gone way down, I mean how many families today still sit down and have dinner each night? Or even just once a week? Even for holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas, people are still rushing and don't have time.

Maybe if people were to chill the fuck out and stop rushing everywhere, they would have time to do other things, but even then they'll probably still have the "me" attitude. "I'm tired", "I don't have time", "I'm stressed", "Me me me look at meeeeee, everyone pay attention to me". Whatever LOL.

Do you mean to say that you CANT trust a big butt and a smile?

LMAO ... Just be cautious lol

& I agree with Fade ... Sometimes you do need to stop and take a chill pill and enjoy
the little things in life ... I did it not to long ago, I was stressing out and realized the
things I was stressing about didn't even matter in the long run of life ... Deaded that
stress and i've been good since.

some 3 years ago, on the right day, i banned my television, gave it away. is overuse of the internet better? hell yeah, at least i only watch what im interested in/ seek the information i want. i dont need much money, never had a car. been raised to shine with skills, not with posession - yet still im far from a focussed life. its a dazzling carnival out there.

people in rural areas are often happier than people in big cities. theres that thing called the pyramid of needs, which shows food, housing, clothing, friendship, love, etc all in an order needs are normally perceived by humen. top to bottom, needs to wants. but (esp. for urbanites) this natural order is often disarranged. social status, appearance and success are put on top. since these qualities are very abstract, relative and not realy quantifiable, we tend to get confused, hungry for more (overuse our credit cards). the way marketing/advertisement makes use of that knowledge is outrageous. they employ psychologists and make us feel need for products, by linking them to feelings. this is bodily harm in my eyes and should be prohibited by law. totally fucked up situation (thats were deragulated free capitalism comes into play).
its exasperating. there were times when all you needed to be revolutionary was a gun and/or some good ideas. today people around you fill out forms for a personalized experience of online advertisement, opportunism is vogue and once you make a false move in the eyes of corporations, you get denounced by the media.
especially in western countries, people wont sense theres anything wrong, as long as they have enough to eat, shit and diffuse their daily grind with. thats not a life.

funny story, last week we had a power breakdown. it was for about 4 hours. when i went out, after some time, people started feeling bored at home. they came out and talked to each other, strangers. streets full of people, calm silence. only noise was from conversation. that was kind of nice

I see where you're coming from Fade, but my experience has been on the opposite viewpoint. In certain situations, especially growing up in conditions of poverty/not having much etc. - buying a nice car or material items is symbolism of that success and inspires a lot of people to do more.

The person I am, values-wise will never change -but- I look at making money as totally separate from who I am. I don't believe that in a world with this much opportunity that anybody should go without having anything they want.

I don't think there's anything wrong with buying the best things money can buy. In fact, I encourage it. My issues with 'the material life' is when you let those material items become the definition of who you are as a person.

I've found for me that returning to the basics has been very helpful for me.
I started little things like not using the computer at all while at home -or- on certain days completely shutting my cell phone off for 24 hours.
Even though I'm involved with producing tv, I hardly ever watch tv myself (ironic).

Having good credit is a trap in itself because it gives you the power to bring literally any material possession in your life if you want it. Keep your priorities in check and don't get caught up in some lifestyle.

once i realized these thoughts a few yrs back, i stopped buyin music equipment... didnt need to have anything... i have an Xbox 360 with about 5 games, but no PS3... that wouldnt have happened a few yrs ago. i wouldve had both systems, AND prolly like 30 games each... i buy sneakers no higher that $60-$70... and i average about 5000 - 7000 miles on my truck a year... thats over 4000 below the american average... alot of people are drivin fancy cars and theyre leasing with the option to buy, but u can find that same car in the classifieds from a private owner ready to sell it below market value, and it would be 100% yours! thats always been my strategy... too many people live beyond their means... thats what u must take advantage of... thats why sites like Ebay and craigslist are so successful... people strive for the american dream, but most cant afford it bcuz we dont save for that "rainy day" that mite come, thats why foreclosure is so high rite now... as u get older, u also realize chasin ass aint all that... find that shorty with a good head on his/her shoulders, and see if theyre ready to commit to movin up in life with u and build a family... when u work 2gether as a team and be smart with ur finances, ull be able to overcome all hurdles life will throw at u.
