Yes, I think everyone knows the book is fiction... but just cause the book is fiction it doesn't mean everything in it is false and just made up. Dan Brown used many factual events and intertwined them in a manner that would make it interesting. Its up to the reader to decide what they get out of the reading. Readers can think that it's all made up and read it for fun, they can believe it as a set of conspiracy theories, or they think that some of it's fact and some of its false. I was pointing out that there were secret societies such as the Knights Templar and Godfrey of Boullion did conquer Jerusalem, etc. Again, lots of his book was based on facts, but facts are twisted around to create hypothetical situations. Most historians hate when history is distorted by books, movies, etc., but I don't care since it's ment to be an interesting book.

yeah , people just like to ruin things and assisinate peoples charecter for no reason sumtimes. i know a lot of things in that book were BASED on sum truth, but at the end of the the day the cover still says ''novel''. that book made me wanna join a secret society the same way the xmen movie made me come outthe theatre actin like wolverine. shit gets u amped

Lex, actually I'm a history major and lots of the facts Dan Brown talks about are real such as the formation of the Knights of Templar, the conquering of Jerusalem, and the issued papal bulls. Many hard facts he writes about are correct, but how people interpret why those things happened is another thing.

I think people like to argue on the accuracy of many of the books facets because people like to be right. They like to think they the "truth"... when there are many perspectives on a single event that contributes to the "truth"...ask Native Americans about Custer's last stand and they would say something completely different from what the avg. W.A.S.P. U.S. history books say

I don't doubt for a minute that the book contains or has elemets which are based on actual fact, I just didn't really like the way Dan Brown [quite possibly unintentionally] merged the facts or fact based elements with fictional elements and then the whole thing was marketed as a 'true story' real consipiracy type revelation...

I might still give it a read at some point, or the other novels he has out, I was just saying I was a bit put off by the way it was marketed and by that program I watched, lol. Interestingly though, there was one element of the Da Vinvi Code which they didn't disprove, [I can't actually remember which though, lol....] and it was something only briefly touched on in the novel apparently, but has huge implications if it is actually real.

And yes of course, something doesn't have to be a true story or based on one to be a fascinating read, I think that goes without saying.

Haven't read the book but seen a documentary called "The Da Vinci Code decoded" it was very intresting. I look forward to reading the book.
