The best sales pitch from an artist I have EVER received!

(Mods: This might be flagged as an industry section post, but I think a lot of cats would benefit from reading this, since I have cats pitching shit to me daily - and the pitches generally suck ass. If you want to move this post, move it - but let cats read this. I know a lot of cats read this specific forum.)

Okay, I am hyped about shit. I got a submission from a pop-rock act that floored me. Literally fucking had me wondering if I was being hustled by a friend as a practical joke. It's not though - it is THE BEST sales pitch from a musician I have EVER seen.

I will not give you the URL and name of the cat, because I found it first, but let me describe.

A. SONGS
1. Every song is radio friendly and abides to the 2:50-3:30 timeframe for radio.
2. Most songs begin with the chorus, which are commercial as fuck. Immediately grabs the idiotic radio listener.
3. It is not heavy rock - meaning that it can play across multiple formats: AC, AOR, Top 40, and some indie/hipster stations.
4. One person wrote the songs/sang everything/played every instrument/produced/engineered it.
5. The songs sound "almost pro" - the dude recorded it in his room on a Mac.

B. THE WEBSITE
1. Dude made a slogan and drew all the art. It's unbelievable. The image is congruent to the music. Even has a press section with press releases for each song and quotes (great for promo.)
2. A cat I know that does design was impressed. Dude made the website too. Unreal - I'd hire the cat for the site.
3. The album is part of a narrative about love. Every song is explained in the narrative as a story. This is very chick friendly ($$$$) and ties in with the music.
4. The cat is not hideous, chicks would dig him - so he has a marketable personal image.
5. The cat's bio is congruent to the slogan, which is congruent to the music. The dude's life story is like some shit from a movie. It's unreal. That's why I almost don't believe it.
6. He has downloads: posters for his project, all types of AIM icons, site widgets and shit. It looks better than shit coming from the web contractor for a certain major label.

The site is covered with sick art that the dude made... all congruent with the image. I can think of multiple revenue streams for this cat that aren't even based on music: clothing, perfume for girls... unreal.

I was practically handed an artist and a marketing strategy by the artist. That's what scary. This dude HAS to be industry to do it so slick. My contacts never heard of the cat.

I wish I could show you the site, but everything is so fucking "right" with the presentation (and the dude has NO manager, agent or whatever. It was off a demo-submission.)

It's not some shit like "dude, download my shit... and check it out." This dude had an entire fucking MARKETING strategy set up with great songs.

I felt like sharing. There.

Think about yourself as a brand and how you'd market yourself. That's the point of this post. This dude differentiated himself from the pack by A MILE AND A FUCKING HALF.

Interesting! As soon as u sign him post his site....lol

lmao.

Bigger cats with deeper wallets are gonna go after the cat, dude can get a bidding war if he gets the right representation. I'm just figuring out how to get a piece of the money, man.

@2good:

Yo, I'm not knockin' you - but the dude that was forwarded to me has a presentation that looks like Saatchi & Saatchi did it. It's slick as fuck.

I'm not knockin' you homie, but do you think your presentation looks like some shit popped out from an advertising agency?

And the songs... they back it all up.

Gotta earn some points off this cat...

Businesswise...

Why would I link to a site I hyped up - only for the artist to find out who I am (really) and that will put him in a better bargaining position AGAINST me, because he read about how excited I was about the project?

I gotta act like it's no big deal. It's about the $$$$$.

Because it's the internet and millions of people have access to the artist. By hiding it from us you accomplish nothing.

But I do understand your Poker skill. Gotta know when to hold them and when to fold them.

If millions of people had access to the artist - the artist would be signed, trust me. Millions of people have accessed your MySpace page I assume? No. Same point.

By having the remote possibility that someone who read my hype - which in retrospect should not have been posted - since I'm being called out by cats that want to see it - I won't do it because I don't want the run the risk of having a negative position leveraged against me.

Take it for what you will.

If you want me to help you with your stuff - ask me, and I most certainly will post common sense opinions.

Thanks for posting! We don't need to see the page to see what you and those on the "inside" look for. You made it quite clear that he had his shit together, right down to his personal image. Which is why he "stood out" to you. It seems like his preparation was more of what got your attention then his actual music, which in turn should be a lesson to all. Though his music fitting the format of what you were looking for didn't hurt.
