we all know that in order to get the best track after mixing, that you have to have the best recording possible to start with, ot before mixng. so im lucky enough that my dad's a dj and he had a compressor (so i took that off his hands) so i run my mic thru the compressor, and from the compressor into my pc. now i know for a fact that, that is a good thing. but today i was looking thru tha attic and i found that my dad also has an old exciter, digital delay, reverb, and expander.

i would like to know if i should run the vocals thru any of these in order to get a good initial vocal track? thanx

im thinkin that maybe runnin it thru the exciter to the compressor into the either reverb or delay (just a little bit) would be a good chain. not to sure about the expander

yea aight i was thinkin about the same thing with the exciter and reverb.
for those that dont know an exciter is a good thing to use on vocal tracks because it adds harmonics to the high frequencies that you cant get from EQin'...i was just wonderin if i should run the vocals thru it for the initial vocal recordin.

and yea homeboy's got an easy thousand old records thats just layin around.60's-99 2000ish

i would go with the compressor, expander & maybe the exciter, other than that i would lay my tracks dry.so save the reverb & delays for after laying the tracks.
