Now i love ths man, he is fucking sick, but leading on from my simple beats post, is the 45 king too simple or just right, and if just right, how can he get away with those simple beats, where another primarily bass driven beat would falter, i spose its cuz his trax are all so damn short, that it nevr gets boring....

i love the 45 king, dont get me wrong

if somethings hot it's hot, whether its simple or complex, sometimes people try to hard and fill out songs too much ! remember no1s trying to make the most complex song just the best songs !

i feel that....but what makes it more sickening is that he uses logic 50% of the time! makes me feel a bit better about using software tho!"

He's a living throwback, in other words he is doing what is considered to be classic or Tru Skool hip hop production that sounds good and is ageless so he stays with those elements and style....but a lot of new sKool do not understand the Tru SKool....they will call it simple, basic or whatever.....a lot of times because they cannot emulate what he is doing nor do they understand......he is using logic to sync gear, it doesn't really say he's using software to make beats fully, he is probably sequencing in there though......but underneath he's using the hardgear for the audio output......I do that sometimes too but the EXS24 is a nice soft sampler you can use in addition......Simple beats or repetitive beats in my book are hot if done correctly......classical beethoven structure and movements etc... are not required to make a hip hop banger the simple beats usually make platinum...or will stick in your mind...just like a simple but catchy hook

What is this article you all are talking about? I've read some 45 king interviews before, but it sounds like you are talking about one in particular. Is there a link I am supposed to be seeing somewhere?

its all about effectiveness. he makes very mc-friendly beats. beats that you HAVE to spit to.

i think some people think complex layers=good and simple=plain.

how can he "get away" with "those simple" beats? because they are good! mc's dont say, oh, thats to simple. i cant spit on that. producers do that... "it needs this, add this, use this"

if you have ever heard a Cold Truth beat, you will hear a lot of layers. i tend to have a climax towards the end of the song with everything going at once... i have one with horns, an organ, a flute, strings, guitar, drums and bass going all at once at one point. that doesnt make it any better- what made it good was that i was able to cleanly mix and arrange those elements together.

i also have one that is just piano, horns, and bass. its actually very empty. Mercury Waters said it was his favorite out of that batch of beats (included the last one i described) and its one of my favorites also.

simplicity is an art form itself- because as i said before, its really about effectiveness. does it hbit? does it make the listener nod their head? does it leave room for the artist? is it a good cypher-starter?

i have my epic beats and i have my "cypher" type beats, just dope tracks that are very simple in theory but are very mc friendly.

the point is, everything has its place and at the end of the day if the music moves someone, regardless of how simple (some things are just deceptive, really more complicated than they seem) they may be, then it is a good track.period.

tahts how i se it, anyways.

ya i hear you cold, but like his return of the breakbeat vol1 has like 2 or 3 tracks with emcees on, trhe rest are proper simple bass drum and stab combo, but his arrangement is perfect, everything fits, perfectly and just when you want it to , it chages up slightly...amazing guy....
