Sampling from tape is cool, eventhough I have a DAT recorder, sometimes I use an anolog tape deck just for the roughness of the sound quality. Especially those old tapes that have been played a million times...lol. Thats one of the best things about hip-hop, it practically doesn't have any limitations to what can be sampled and used whereas other genres have a more defined set of rules. I just can't imagine hearing a rough sample on classical music. Tape hiss can be a nice touch sometimes.

I bring out the tape deck every now and then. I had to get this jazz bassline off a cassette once... it worked out out fine. Shit, I grabbed a piece out of "About A Boy" and I have that on VHS! LOL
