ok well,

i try and keep my hip hop listening limited these just for spiritual reasons. trying to maintain a Christian walk and be an example to a lot of these kids i am around is hard when i got the f word coming out the mouth of my favorite rapper who happens to be a muslim (dont trip, i'm just sayin it makes others question my walk and dedication to it. long story. it has nothing to do with islam itself.).... and then go and teach the next night. basically, its just conflicting to me personally sometimes.
its a lil hard because the artists that inspire me dont share my faith.

so i try to listen to some good, clean, christian hip hop. .. . .. . . .. . .. . ... . . . . and it just aint happening.

not to mention..............

last night, at church, these two kids, um, rapped, er.... READ from a frigin piece of paper their rhymes.... same as last week. plus they were mad stereotyped "bling bling" with the fake chins and all andexagerated head nodding and everything... and last week when i met them the first time, even though they sucked horribly, (they were THAT bad...) i was like, "hey, its all in the name of ministry and at the very least at least its positve" and so i went up to them tryin to be cool and all, and showed them my beats and they were like uh, yeah thats cool... and then quickly switched back to some wack boss dr 5 (sometihng like that) beat..... dude has a korg d1200 and a $200 drum machine... makes no sense whatsoever.... and the other guy was bragging about how he makes beats but he just forgot to bring his and how his friend has this dope studio and he has his masters and "three sythesizers and two beat machines" although he couldnt tell me what they were.....

so he asked me what i have and i said "my computer". his jaw just about hit the floor after that.

and they kept on playing their retarded little beats and treated me like mine were some ameteur b.s..............

what the hell happened? are my beats that bad? what the hell?

then i got real indignant about it (didnt say anything... i'm gettin real good at holdong my toungue these days...) and felt like, "hey, im doing YOUR WACK little crew A FAVOR just by trying to network with you!" i felt so insulted...

and then i thought, '"YUP. THIS IS WHY PEOPLE LAUGH AT CHRISTIANS, ESPECIALLY CHRISTIAN RAPPERS."

any of you ever come across something like this? where someone completely wack brushes you off and basically disses you when you are trying to be cool despite the fact you know they are wack and still show love?

needless to say i left a little discouraged. so i'm wondering, would/will still suport me even though i am a christian and all my music wil reflect that? i dont really believe in every rhyme talking about moses... because these guys make me not even want to present myself as a believer.

absolutley man, i find it hard to beleive some of my favorite christian groups don't get very much attention. take cross movement for example, they have got insane talent, yet you never hear about them outside certain places, its ridiculous. i listen to all kinds of hip hop, and to me its about the music, i dont care much for the lyrics, except for with certain cases. keep your chin up bro, dont let people get to you, do your own thing.

Truth: i wondering how you can expect people to support your christian music when you wont support non-christian music. thats the impression i got when you talked about limiting your listening of Hiphop. I can understand you not wanting to listen to Hiphop where violence or something similar is being advocated cos that shit should be wrong in everyones books. but if you are refusing to listen to someone elses opinion (which comes via their lyrics) just cos they use the word FUCK to express themselves, i think you are shutting yourself off from a wealth of love. you may think you know the truth or whatever but other poeple will have their differing opinions too. this is inevitable. never will every living person have the same opinion as you. so i think its very important to learn to "agree to disagree"....and you can only do this by actually listening to what people have to say.

as i said i can understand if you dont want to listen to someone talkign shit but a petty swear word shoulnt be the deciding factor of whether you listen to an artist or not. btw, i know your not AGAINST any particular religion (as you said).

i would support you whole heartedy with your music which expresses your religios beliefs. but i think you should also show a little love for those who dont belive in christ and who might happen to think it honestly feel right to express them selves by using words like FUCK.

do you feel me? i hope i didnt take this too far. i aint up for beef you know that.

i just felt you were being slightly closed minded at a time when you were hoping people would open theirs up.

what do you think?

ps.......na i havnt been dissed by somone wack yet. dont worry about them cats. they aint going anywhere.

'dont worry about them cats. they aint going anywhere'

word

you should just laugh and realise your beats were too good for them and doing anything for their crew wouldn't be worthwhile to you

I wouldn't worry about it. For sure they're not going anywhere, they must just be a couple of kids that discovered hiphop after seeing 8 Mile. LOL.

You offered your help and they ignored you, so leave it at that. Let them do their thing, eventually they'll have a website that everyone will check out to get a good laugh, like the Icy Hot Stuntaz.

If I see kids like that I dont even offer help..
I am way passed the stage of educating what hiphop is about..
As long as I know what it is its good enough to me..
If someone wants to know what hiphop is about, they should search for themselves first before I even wanna talk to them about it..

Yeah man they want beats that to me seem to fuggin basic and luke like....throwback to the old 808/909 kit for all of the sounds.....nothing but bass and 808 with some hi hat triplets on top.....nothing against it, i make those types of beats every now and then from scratch but you know that bounce shidd that comes on all of the keyboard demos....hahaha or that you can just edit the motif or fantom demos enuff and have a beat...that's what they want....they don't have time to understand how to actually sequence and look for the right snares and kicks don't even mention diggin.....keep doing your thing man is exactly right...........a lot of cats will suck you into doing some of what they hear on the radio because they have no concept of originality or trying to come up with something that rocks.

hmmmm good points mess, but there is actually a much bigger picture at hand. the f word reference was more an example than anything. it doesnt bother me personally. i always have, and will support those who have differing views from my own. look at incubus- my favorite band whose lead singer doesnt really seem to like christianity all that much, and mos def is a devout muslim and my favorite hip hop artist. all i was saying was i gave it a shot at switching to the music of those who share my beliefs (ya'll should check out Mars Ill by the way.....BACKBREAKANOMICS!!!! but thats about it.) and it wasnt really working out, and that it can be difficult to listen to those that dont share my faith- the reason being is that its just kind of a lonely road because i relate to cats like you guys more then the christian guys, but i still need that fellowship with them, you feel me? so i was just sayin, this is tough sometimes. does that make sense? i hope so. i have been listening to Pharoah Monchs "Agent Orange almost non stop the last few weeks..... i feel what you are saying a bout missing out on what other people have to say. there just arent many that i can relate to on all sides... its always one or the other....

i am actually on a fine line at the moment. i have basically challenged my church and THE church in general and kind of pissed a lot of people off in the process- because i dont particularly believe in a lot of the things that are done within it and i have made it known. musically, i really dont want to cater specifically to the christian audience ONLY, because Jesus himself said to be IN the world, just not OF it. so basically we arent seing eye to eye lately, more of a "my-fist-to-their-mouth" level- i'm pretty fed up with a lot of things.

but i would definitely support any of you in here, regardless... i was just wondering what the view was like from the other side. its a good way to keep perspective on things, so thanks for the honesty messenger. you lived up to your name there. one-COLD

i THINK i understand what your saying Truth.

i understand how the "fuck" thing was an example. i figured id use your examples so it was easier for you. anyway. putting that aside...

i was a little confused in some areas

you mentioned that you feel you can relate to poeple like us better than you can with christians. but before that you said that you sometimes find it difficult to listen to those who dont share your faith. that confuses me alot. can you clarify?

also, which are the two "one or the other" sides in the equation?

if you can id like you to put the problem in a nut shell for me. sorry if im not following you too well. but this is something thats obviously bothering you to some extent so id like to understand the problem before i get into to far.

holla back Truth.

peace

i agree with cold's viewpoint. i've recently started listening to a little chrsit-hop on accident. i've heard stuff from mars ill over the years and had know idea he was a christian rapper. i was christian hip hop board for 3 weeks before i realized that it wasn't a regular hip hop forum.

its like so many of them feel that every word out of their mouths has to be worship music. its as frustrating as hearing commercial rappers talk about their rims in every song. its difficult to be a part of something when you don't feel entirely the same way as the others. i grew up in a similar situation that i wont go into now. i feel your struggle though truth. just make music thats meaningful to you. thats all that matters
