The penalty for not having insurance is only a slap on the wrist. I think it's only like 90 bucks annually...so we'll still have knuckle heads not having insurance. This just makes it more accessible I feel. No more 2 big insurance providers controlling your entire state. Being able to buy insurance across state lines. Though it will cost us and our kids now I think it'll pay for itself in the future. If you make below 80k you won't have to sell your soul or mortgage your house should you fall seriously ill. No more waiting 90 days if you get a new job to be covered for a pre-existing health issue.

Bidden was dead on when he called it a big F'n deal....it is! Those mics are suppose to have gates on them...I wonder why in this case it did not! A gated mic would have never picked that up.

No other President had come close to getting anything in the healthcare area done. Feels like Barack has been President for 10 years and it's showing on his face....but it's been a little over a year. He's well on his way to being the most "productive" President in history. He's paving the way for the first female President as well. His ability to get shit done in the hell hole called the U.S gov't scares a lot of people. Many wished he'd faill miserably so no other black man, brown man, female or other would dare run for the highest office in the land again. So far "it ain't workin".....

This bill is a joke unfortunately. No public option, Insurance companies can still essentially deny patients but they get fined, its just a new hurdle for the insurance industry that will easily be taken over once again by greed. Im not impressed.

I wish it would have been a public option.
I wonder how the bum on the corner who does not work and WILL not work and in some cases CANnot work is going to be enforced to buy health insurance.
Im glad it passed as this is the first president I have seen actually start doing the things he said he was going to do.
I think we also need to focus hardcore on infrastructure before the brooklyn bridge and many others collapse on us.
Additionally although the war on terror will never be over since Obama came in we are making serious progress against Al-Qeada and they are in fact on the run begging for help from Bin Laden.
Gitmo, I think he realised we cant bring those people here and that mess is going to be with us for awhile.
The snap shot for the healthcare thing was 49% in favor and 40% against, problem is that 40% is comprised of some real crazies..
Hope they all lose their insurance and then benefit from this law, that'll shut em up!

1) he'll be allotted money from the gov't to purchase a type of insurance, won't be the best but it'll be better than nothing

2) nothing will be forced on him until he or she shows up at the hospital for medical attention. There info will be taken and a penalty in the form of a fine will be given annually. I don't think anybody will willingly pay that fine so I assume the IRS will inforce it "IF" you get a tax refund.

See, it's really not the "forced healthcare" all the crazies were yappin' about. Don't go to the hospital, never get the penalty. Have money to pay your own bill, never get the penalty.

I think the bill is more geared toward those who "WANT" healthcare but can't afford it. Gives them options! They'll find something out there that they can afford til they can do better. There's nothing out there like that now.......nothing. Most want to pay but just can't afford it when the system is monopolized by the hogs.

hopefully the states overturn this...It is very dangerous to set the precident of forcing americans to buy ANY product...no matter how good the gov't thinks it is for you.

The bill is over 1000 pages long, no one has read it, so to applaud it as a success or to condem it as the worst thing is not wise.

I will say this....the penalty for not having insurance is not a "slap on the wrist" its 395 - 900 if you make under 30 stacks a year 1000-5000 if you make 30 to 60 stacks a year, and 2.5 percent of your annual gross income if you make more than 60.

There is no public option so what we have here is another way for the gov't to fuck poor people (they neeeeeeever do that right?)

I dont think the govt should be able to tell us what to do, but I dont know maybe I'm crazy

It may not be right, but you've been doing what the government tells you to do ever since you could speak/walk.

I think the health care bill is a little rushed, there's probably a shitload of earmarks in it and all that. 1000 pages is pretty extensive, but a lot of bills are like that and get approved.....

Just look @ the bailouts....starting with Bush......we wasted all this money to bail out companies, for nothing....It did nothing for our economy.....

We have become a country where we've gotten extremely lazy. We don't want to do shit for ourselves and when the shit hits the fan (and it has been hitting the fan for years, now), we don't know what to do to help improve it, so we call on the government to help us. SOOOO the government does, but not without the government getting something in return....Which is exactly what it wants in the first place......

If you have a car its the law you have to have car insurance (I know some people dont), Where I live im forced to pay for flood insurance (and I dont live near any water, nor has there been anything close to a flood my whole life). I know we dont know all the specifics of the bill, but the whole point is to give americans health care coverage. We have all these guys getting killed for almost nothing for the past 8 years, and these 'tea bag' terrorist want to get violent over health care for americans which includes them.

I rather be forced to have health insurance then flood insurance any day.

Everybody's quick to jump on what they think is the negative of this bill.

Let's talk about those making 60k or below as you stated that show up at the hospital UNABLE to pay there bill. Who's suppose to pick up that tab? I'm not too proud to say that I've shown up at the hospital on a few occassions in my life and was unable to pay the bill...shit I never thought about paying it. Couldn't afford it and couldn't afford health insurance. Once again, who foots that bill that you can't pay?

Today more people show up at the hospital that are unable to pay than those that can. Why? Because those with insurance see a doc on a regular bases to prevent those type issues. Most doctor offices won't see u if you are unable to pay but the hospitals take damn near everyone. Do you think these hospitals can keep there doors open at the rate that uninsured people in need are showing up in there emergency rooms? I say hell no. If it were not for the gov't providing federal funds to many of these hospitals those who can pay wouldn't have a hospital to go to. Most hospitals operate in the red. My wifey is an RN on the managerial level. I hear how the financial status of where she works is ALWAYS on the brink.

The few times that I've used a hospitals services without the ability to pay had I had and OPTION to have AFFORDABLE health insurance I surely would have. Once I got older, had better jobs and could AFFORD it I surely did. They only time I haven't had it in the last 10 years is when I was between jobs or the wife was. No one that I know can afford that freakin' COBRA b.s For a family of 4 you'll be paying well over a grand a month!!!!

The bottom line is that we couldn't and can not continue to go in the direction that we've been going. The system has been broken and I applaud Obama for ATTEMPTING to try and fix it. The bill is not as good as it could have been but it's better than what we would have faced in the next ten years at the rate things have been going in healthcare. The healthcare business is going to be wide open now. EVERYONE should be able to find something that they can afford. If you make that 60 to 30k you really should have NO EXCUSE for not having insurance by 2014. People have begun dying again from simple things due to lack of healthcare insurance. Financially as a nation we've been reduced to a 3rd world country....we're trillions in debt thru no fault of the common man. I truly feel that had we not done something about healthcare in this country we would self destruct in the next decade.

The only might we wheel in the world today is military strength and because we're involved in basically 3 wars, Afganistan, Pakistan and Iraq that to will soon be depleted. Military, the financial system and health care are all we got. One has failed, the military is stretched so that it will fail if we don't pack up and get out. But because of this bill we have a FIGHTING chance on the healthcare front. If healthcare crumbled as it was predicted to do in the next decade we'd be royally fucked as a nation. That would be the straw that broke the Camels back. Times are going to get much harder for us as a nation before they MIGHT get better. We still may go down but I'm glad we have someone fighting to maintain our way of life. The average person is NOT READY for the things as a nation we're are going to have to do without before this has a chance of turning around. Some think we're at the bottom of the barrel right now. I don't think we're even half there yet but we will reach it before things can get better if they can ever get better. I for one don't think this country will EVER see the prosperity it once did and because of abuse we shouldn't! And maybe that's what we need. Maybe we need to go 100 yrs not being on top of the world to become better PEOPLE!!!

I am against the bail outs, but you do know they are loans that the company's pay back right? So that money will come back, it is not a waste. And it did help our economy allot.

You are absolutely right. No one is reporting how much money has already been made on these loans and how some are already being paid back in full. NPR reports it but as mentioned earlier, the news and media is not really interested in putting out the truth. They want to focus on hot topics to keep people's attentions for advertising dollars. It is a shame. Bailouts were bailouts but they were also investments made for society. Money is already being made.

And if you watch Daily show, they cover a lot of things that major news outlets will not and it is a shame. DId any of you guys catch the CitiGroup Investment scheme that they covered last night? Shit is insane.

I completely cosign this. I am not sure why more people don't explain it this way.

What I see happening is:

Companies can no longer rape people so the PROFITS will not be the same so there will be some initial cutbacks.

But... since there will be more people being covered, you will need more insurance agents which means more jobs. And you will need more nurses and doctors which means more jobs. The reform will restrict a lot of the fraud and abuse happening right now which will eventually reduce the deficit.

I a still waiting for Republicans to show me exactly how and why this is bad for America?

Whenever they do try and make their case, it always gets traced back to "THIS IS BAD FOR ME, THE REPUBLICAN WHO IS MAKING A SHITLOAD OF MONEY OF AMERICANS AND I WANT THINGS TO STAY THE SAME."

I really don't think it helped as much as people hoped....credit card companies are not taking ANYONE right now...they are still on freeze when it comes to the average applicant...

GM had to shut down production of a their Saturn and Pontiac (which has been around for quite a few decades).....Those people LOST their jobs...

Chrysler is STILL in dire straits.....

I mentioned these companies due to the huge workforce these companies have. Look @ Michigan....the bailouts did SHIT for Detroit....They helped a few big credit companies to stay afloat...but at what cost?? GOVERNMENT CONTROL..!

People who do make money aren't investing it anymore...they're saving it...not putting it into anything here....

I live in a pretty affluent area...and it's crazy how many people stay home...the restaurants aren't as packed, anymore..the theme parks are basically empty.......

My neighbors are mostly from a subdivision basically with residents who used to own million dollar plus homes......They've moved to mine because the business wasn't producing the numbers and had to leave/got laid off....They had to sell their homes for less than what they paid.....for fear of foreclosure....

So I don't think it's helped the economy, just helped those particular companies that got bailed out....for a little while at least...

The big problem with the american car companies are that there business model is flawed. They will always run out of money. Look at the internal margin of Toyota vs Ford, or look at Microsoft Vs Apple. How much they make per sale is really interesting.

They need you to go and tell them how to make capitalism work for them. Even when there is no demand. lol

Competition forces from the far east have caused the problem for the american car market. Competition has backed them into a corner and now they are struggling to survive. They cannot compete with the cheaper far eastern workforce. And not to forget the germans who's cars have a reputaion for reliablity and build quality.
