Still Need help loading CD-R sounds/samples

Hey, I appreciate the help I've gotten so far with my MPC2kXL.....Here's my next question. I have an external CD-R with about 5 CD's full of different sample sounds.....anyway, I can't get it to load. It hooks up fine and everything and when I connect it it shows it as a SCSI 1.....and i can see that it recognizes it, too because I can see the names of the different sounds in the file field...but I don't know what to do it get it to load up so I can hear them from the pads. When I use the internal zip drive and turn the system on it loads those sounds automatically.....what do I need to do to get it to do that with my CD's? If someone could give me a step by step explaination I would appreciate it. Yes, I have the manual, I'll use the "shift-load" sequence and it just takes me to the screen....then I push setup and that's about when I get stummped.....on the set up screen I set the primary divice as SCSI 1 and I set the auto loding file type to APS+All. But after that it doesn't automaticaly load the sounds. Anyway, please give me some feedback so I can get this thing going. Hopefully it's just something very simple that I'm missing. I just want it to load automatically when it is turned on with the CD-R connection. Thanx,

Hey,

I'm just curious...are you able to load sounds AT ALL? Up until now I've had the impression that you couldn't read the discs, as if the drive were broken or if the discs didn't even have any programs on them...

Are we to understand that your problem is that you aren't able to automatically load the samples from your SCSI drive when you turn the MPC on? Is it correct that you CAN load sounds from the CDROM, but you have to do it manually?

Are the files on the CDROM the correct APS and ALL files? Or are they simple WAV files?

Thanks

Ok, I"ll try to explain it better.....yes, my CD-R works....the CD's have been used with other MPC's and it says it right on the case.......anyway, I just can't get the samples to load automatically....plain and simple and I want to. As far as knowing if they are the correct APS and All files I dont know.....all I know is that they have been used on other MPC's before. Ihope you can fell me in on what I need to do........thanx a lot......heck, I"m willing to give you my phone number so I could talk to you about it.....I could explain it to that way.....straight from the source.

I forgot to mention that I don't know how to load them manually either.....Like I've said, I'm new to this whole MPC thing.....so I'm starting from point A.

Hey,

I hate to say this, but you really need to learn how to walk before you can run!

I downloaded the manual off the net, page 16 seems to walk you through loading sounds off a CDROM pretty easily.

In simple English, it reads:

1. Put cd-r into the CDROM
2. Press shift+load to open the Load doalogue.
3. Select the device you want to load from (floppy, hard disk or external SCSI device)
4. Once you've chosen the CDROM, you should see a 'root' directory name in the upper right corner of the screen, and the name of the disk next to the File field.
5. Hit the Open Window button (I assume this is button on the MPC somewhere)
6. On the screen should be either a list of more folders or just some files. You'll probably want to load the program files because they will already have samples assigned to the drum pads for you.

Come on guys, I'm the only one helping him, and I don't even own an MPC!! There MUST be someone here with an MPC and CDROM who can help...

Take care,

Nick

I appreciate your help.....Yes, I feel stupid.....I have the manual.....I thought I was following it pretty good.....but for whatever reason I am not doing something right......I understand your "walk before you run" analogy...I use it with my students from time to time....but I also tell them not to be afraid to ask questions just because you think they are "dumb"......so needless to say, I'd rather have some help from someone instead of me fumbling around like an idiot.....and Nick, I do appreciate your help....especially coming from a guy who doesn't even own one.......U would think that someone who owns one could help me out........guess not......I'll keep plugging away.....later, Season
