Stanton Turntables

hey guys hows everyone doing. I just got a new job and I making some money and getting ready too start a studio. I come across the stanton and the vestax's. Im not really wanting too get a technics because I wont be doing much scratching, just sampling off records like crazy and maybe just listen too the oldies. Anyways I came across the ST8R-150 and it came with a lot of features that I liked. but the only thing that I didnt like was the straight arm and was wondering if u could replace it with an S shaped arm. What do some of you guys think, are Stantons alright or should I just go with the vestax.

If ur just sampling and thats it , u dont even need expensive turntables even tough they are nice, i got a stanton belt drive and it works just fine

Tru but I may do some scratching just to get into the groove of DJ'ing. What type of Turntable do you have? like the model and how are they

Just to be on the safe side you should get the Technics 1200's in case you get the scratching bug and want to take it a step further. But the Stanton and Vestax seem to be really good too, but for a bit more cash go with the industry standard 1200's.

If you can't get your hands on a 1200; then I would suggest the Vestax pdx-2000. It has a straight tone arm also; but it does not skip and you can do some ill ish with the pitch controls on that puppy. You can also quickly reverse with a touch of a button. I have both 1200's and pdx-2000's and though I love my 1200s I have to say the vestax are the 1200's top competition, IMO.

Go for the 1200's. Theyll last you a lot longer, and its easier to find replacement parts if you need them.


BTW whats your beef with the straight arm?

oh no I have no beef some dude from a music store told me that the S shaped arms are way better. Please dont kill me for saying this, I feel that the stantons are good and I dont know why. I always here bad things about them but they seem cool in my opinion

Yea, i love stanton. I got a STR8-50 a couple years ago when they were still makin that, and i still use that all the time. Just for all the money youll spend on new turntables over time, you could get a pair of 1200s and never hafto replace. But do what your gonna do though.

About the S-Shaped ones. I dont know why the guy would tell you that. He probly said that maybe cuz straight arms put more weight directly on your records. This results in two things. Less skipping. And record wear. If you got a straight arm, and you keep a lot of weight on it, even when your just sampling, you can wear down your records. Or if you scratrch the same record all the time, youll get a real hissing/static sound on that part of the record and it will skip a lot cuz of the wear. As long as you make sure you keep the weight kinda light, youll be good.

Aight man but if u gonna fork out that much money than u might as well get the 1200's, just my opinion tough
