I really like the drums on this. The little fills and quick changes with the drums keeps the beat interesting. The two main phrases you came up with flow really nicely into each other and are super smooth - especially how well it flows into the outro.

I would like to hear the bass bit more prominent in the mix, but maybe it would take away from the smoothness. That hard sync synth/guitar bit also serves to add a more groove to the beat. Dope flip.

@CalvinCoolidge

This is probably the approach I would've taken with the sample. I like that you pulled out one shots and put some rhythm to melody. Some reverb on the snare would really add that gritty boom-bap vibe to it too. Cool flip.

Thanks, this one has basically been an exercise in sound design. It's a violin plugin (NI strad violin to be exact), not a guitar, with a big fuckoff effects chain. The chops are also pretty heavily processed. My CPU hates me.

As far as the bass goes, i'll bring it up a bit. I always have a hard time with bass due to my monitors not presenting bass accurately (if at all under 50hz). Usually I swap over to my home theater system for that stuff but I still haven't set that up after moving. Quick and dirty anyway, basically worked on it a bit yesterday and this morning.

"Big Fuckoff FX Chain" is my new fav music production term lol. I have similar issues with monitoring and mixing as you do. I write and mix most everything in my headphones. They're a good set of headphones but I also find they under represent the bass - so when I think it's sitting nicely it'll sound WAYY too loud on other devices - particularly my car. What I do now is compare the two, I've found a sweet spot between them.

I did buy a set of IK iLoud speakers last year, but being in a Condo and working on beats late at night, I try not to piss off my neighbours.
