I have some event studio monitors hooked up to my computer. I also have my turntables and mixer hooked up to my computer as well. When I turn up the volume on the mixer the louder I turn it up the speakers start to make a slight hissing noise I can hear when nothing is playing and I am near my speakers. Is this bad for the speakers when it starts to do this or is this normal??

I'd imagine it's a bit of noise coming from the line in, mine gives me all kindsa hiss. I guess if you wanna go spend a few hundred on a soundcard it'll get rid of most of it, but it's not worth it really

Is this hiss or humm....there is a difference, I got a pair of Event 20/20's, what happens if you have everything hooked up and just start turning the volume up.....does the hiss/humm get louder? also make sure that you don't have a feedback loop in your audio chain.....this means you have something input into a mixer channel and playing back into the same channel somewhere.......

Yo I have the same 20/20's and when I turn the volume up all the way on the computer there is a very very faint humming type of noiese that comes out. Then once I turn on my mixer and start turning up that volume on the mixer the hiss starts, and the louder I turn the volume on the mixer the louder the hiss. It is way more noticeable then when the mixer is off. You can really only hear it when music isnt playing anyways, I just wanna make suer that my speakers arent going to blow or sometheing. The input sensitivity in the back isnt even turned up all that loud. So yeah I don't know if that helps or not.

Just to add on to what I just said. What do the different inputs on the back of the speaker mean. Would this have anything to do with this topic. Right now I have the unbalanced RCA line input hooked up. The other two are balanced XLR inputs, and valanced 1/4" inputs. Whats the difference?

if its just hiss nothing to worry about cause you gonna get that. if its hum then i would think you`d need a better ac ground for your equipment. anytime you hook something up that has power to it its gonna generate some noise (hiss).now the different inputs on the back of your monitors is for hooking up 1/4 inch balanced or non balanced cables and for xlr balanced cables. balanced cables allow you to work in the +4 db range where as if you have hook ups for rca cables you are gonna be in the -10 db range. now if you have rca cables hooked to your monitors then you will experience more noise (hiss) comming from you speakers than you would if you have 1/4 inch balanced or xlr cables.
