yo i peeped that link helix.. truthfully im not sure dude knows what he's talkin bout .. at least the shit at the end for the filters is not right... theres 8 channels on there and 1 and 2 are low filters ... 3 - 6 are high filters and 7, 8 no filter.... so since he didnt have that right who knows if he was right bout the sample time... im real curious to know though... when are you gettin it? is it in the mail or something? ... anyways yo as far as the thing about sampling the drums back into the eps fuk dat... besides the 12 bit grimy sound you get the other best feature with the sp is the natural swing on beats... it just is super tight for making drum patterns and they allways come out with a dope feel.. i HATED programmin drums on my eps... but thats just me... but yo let me know bout that sample time thing when you get it cause im curious.. i seen like 4 or 5 different ones and they all have had 5 seconds on em... 1.2 would be rough yo....

I just got this shit in the mail today. It works. Everything besides the main output and a couple of the assignables. Im havin trrouble findin out if the drums are playin cuz i can only hear the sound leakin through the wires. So i cant really tell if theres anything else wrong with it or not. Ill let you know if i get this fixed or somethin.

UPDATE:

I just got my outputs to work (there were some loose wires inside). My input is the only shit im havin trouble with. Im findin new shit on this every 5 minutes

why not resample your drums back into your eps, so u control and sequence everything in one machine (and not be limited by the super low sample time). i do this with my mpc 3k/s950 combo

The sp sequencer has great punch, you'd lose that in resampling. Plus aloowing the sounds to play in sequences from the sp imparts more of its signature sound. Also, does the eps allow you to change the swing as much as the sp? Don't think so.

It really is only 1.2 seconds of sample time. I love this machine already but im not ready to dish a couple more hundreds out on 4 more seconds of sample time. I love the sequencer, and the tune/decay and mix functions for the faders are dope.

Im gonna keep this for a while. If i get enough money i might get the turbo function in a couple years or somethin.

thats nuts... what the fuck do you got to get to add this turbo shit...

I dont know what you hafto do, but i think i can live without it for now.

I figured out how to sample shit in and i already know my way around the interface alright. But when im in sample mode the input sounds mad distorted. I cant even tell what sound im playin into it. But once it gets sampled and put into a pad it sounds fine. I dont care or anythin but i just wanna know if this is normal or if somethin is fucked up.

Another thing thats pissin me off. When i do a 2Bar loop with my own samples. ill just do somethin like kick snare kick snare and ill have the hi-hats goin on the 1/8th notes. But its like the snare cuts off the hi-hats. Cuz the hats will go:"hat hat snare hat hat hat snare hat". I dont know whay this does this but its pissin me off and it screws up the flow of the beat. I tried puttin all my samples into differrernt banks. or movin them around to different pads but it keeps havin the snare cut off the hat. Let me know if this happens to you or how you fix it.

YES WHEN IN SAMPLE MODE, YOU CAN'T HEAR THE AUDIO THRU THE MACHINE, YOU HAVE TO MONITOR IT WHILE SAMPLING THRU ANOTHER SOURCE.

THE SOUNDS ARE ON THE SAME CHANNEL. GO TO SET-UP 17 CHANNEL ASSIGN.iF FILTERING, LOW FREQS GO ON 1+2,MIDS3+4,HIGHS5+6,UNFILTRERED7+8. sOUNDS ON THE SAME CHANNELS WILL CONFLICT IF SHARING THE SAME NOTE. WHICHEVER NOTE WAS INSERTED MOST RECENTLY WILL TAKE PRIORITY. CONSIDER WHAT YOU WANT OUT OF THE SOUND WHEN SAMPLING, IN SAMPLING BUTTON TWO YOU CAN ASSIGN THE CHANNEL BEFORE TYOU SAMPLE. ALSO IF YOU DO HAVE SOUNDS SHARING THE SAME CHANNEL AND WANT TO KEEP IT THAT WAY GO TO SETUP 23SPECIAL AND THENN 22 DYNAMIC ALLOCATION AND SET IT FOR YES FOR THE CHANNELS THAT YOU HAVE SOUNDS BUMPING EACH OTHER.

yo another thing about the noise when sampling... lets say your mixer has the sp runnin into it as well as the sampling source... make sure and mute the sp by turning off the output channels when sampling (unless you got two dffernt monitoring devices) it can actually put noise in the samples sometimes... ya feel me?

Could one of you tell me how i midi eps16 and sp12 up together. Whether its to you the sp or the eps's sequencer i dont care, but i wanna use both through midi.

What settings do i change in the eps as far as base channel and all that, and how do i put different instruments on different channels through midi so i can control more then one sample at a time on different machines.

EPS
In eps press edit then midi, then transmit on instrument channel

Then create a midi instrument

command, instrument, create new instrument
enter
select unused instrument, hit enter and it creates an unnamed instrument
edit, instrument, send keys to midi
scroll to midi out channel, set it to whatever midi channel you set your sp to, ex. midi channel 3
scroll to name the instrument and name it sp-channel whatever

load and save midi instrument
you can adjust volume, keyboard range and layering just like any eps instrument

SP
Must be set to multi mode, and omni turned off, make sure its set to the same channel as the eps midi

I forgot this part, but this is the primo set-up for playing basslines using the sp12 or 1200. Get a dope bass sample, loop the end for sustain, output it through the low end filters, set the sound in multi mode, and play some sick basslines via the eps or s950, or asr.

Is there a kind of way to do somethin like track or sound mutes without just turnin the volume down or somethin?

In the eps go to command track, srcoll right until you see each of thr eight tracks with a star, p, m or s. in song mode you may see an s for transpose. Play each sequence from there and play, mute, or solo each track. the star means there is nothing on the track. In the sp just go into mix while the sequence is play, and adjust the volumes of each bank accordingly.
This is where i was talking about how i play and record the sequences live, bringing pieces in and out. Then i go into acid and sound forge and resequence and mix the song. It gives me a liver feel and keeps me from over sequencinga beat.

ill o.g.
i already knew the eps's track mute screen, but im tryin to work on the sp's right now. I can do all the track mutes on a beat on the eps perfect, now i jus gotta do it on the sp.

Another thing,

Every other sample i start puttin in instead of sayin: "Sample Is Good" it says "Sample Overload". Then i go to edit the sound and it has clipping on every sample i put in there, and then i hafto re-sample each sound back in individually.
What makes it say sample overload, and what can i do so it says sample good every time.

"In the sp just go into mix while the sequence is play, and adjust the volumes of each bank accordingly. " there is not a mute button

When sampling adjust the gain so that the sample in put is as close to peak without crossing it. In sample mode set the macro gain with #3 0,+20,+40. Then use the micro gain knob to fine tune the actual input. You should have already adjusted the source gain, through a mixer to 0dbs. As a measuring mark I always try to get my levels to bounce within a 1/4 inch of the end of the display, if it reaches the end than you have clipped. Save the sounds after you record them, don't wait until you have recorded all of them.

ill o.g.
I make sure it dont come close to the end of the screen. Even if the meter only goes half way acroos it still says overload sometimes.

And i also dont have anything to save wit right now. And even once i get one of them drives i dont know where im gonna find them 5.25 disks without spendin $50 on a box.

That sounds like a bug.

yo peep the input shit i said earlier.. i used to have alot of problems with that when i first got mine...make sure the output of the sp is off when sampling, either turned off on the mixer or go ahead and pull the 1/4 inch out....

i never have to remove or turn down the sp output while sampling, it is inherent for there to be no output while samplng. that is whyyou have to monitor it through a different source when sampling. if you get overload and the sampling threshold is not going above half way there is a glitch or bug. try to stick with what works, if it is inconsistent, you'll pull you hair out.
