Why hasn't this been done yet? With the popularity of both the E-MU SP1200 and the Akai MPC60, wouldn't it make sense for someone to make an emulator?

I know that there's a "vintage mode" filter option in Maschine and with the Renaissance, but what about an actual dedicated plug-in?

I'm just wondering because I figured something like this would have been done already. If someone did do it, it would probably be a big seller.

there are some lofi effect plug-ins with decent sounding presets, such as sonitex 1260 and d16 decimort. but i guess half of what makes an sp1200 beat sound like an sp1200 beat is how you work with the machine and the gear that you use with it. anyway, none of the plug-ins ever gave me what i was hoping for, that punchieness and warmth right out of the box. i was rather fantasizing about some company to come up with an external soundcard with adjustable converter characteristics if that makes any sense. a break-out box with 3-band eq, bit resolution and sample rate settings and a simple compressor for 300 bucks or something. you'd just need to hit a nerve soundwise and that thing would sell like crazy.

Well on Maschine, I've used the SP1200 setting, and it sounds dope. But.... like you said, it's not just like that. The original hardware of course was different, so it's how you had to work with the unit to get that certain sound. Like sampling in 45 speed, for example.
