No projects currently... just creating some beats when I feel like it (I have a job now so I'm too tired to work with the beats also all the time). Still tryin' to learn more and more 'bout mixing and (pre)mastering... So no projects, just learning and shit.

Yeah everyone has lots of stuff happening, the thing I wanna stress is I been at making beats since b4 99 and dabbled in it b4 that, LOL so just stay on your grind and you will get projects, I mean no one here is a pro, well maybe there is one or 2, so don't ever feel above an MC or artist for the most part, you have to start somewhere, I keep hearing people think they will just jump into the game with their beats, it does not work like that for the most part it can but I wouldn't bet on it...there is way too much competition trying to get on projects, think 9th.....2 or 3 albums that we know of completed b4 all of the Jayz fame.....I have lots more completed work but I just never advertised it or bothered LOL....network and have a good instrumental catalogue and more important a top notch Beat CD and if possible some finished songs with MC's or artist.....that is the fruit of being a producer....merging your work with an artist...an instrumental is only 50% of a song remember that.....some that never worked with people might find out truly how hard or easy it is too, its easy to make the notes fit but can you get your idea for the song to transfer to the artist unless you just sell beats and forget about it and let them record and have no input.....I dont do that.....

WOW Woohff you gotta be one of the beginning members, where ya been?

I been runnin around new england findin new people. Gettin alotta records out the local sections and gettin in contact with all the people that are nice. Im talkin to a couple guys from inde labels in boston and im gettin ready to send em some beats. Plus i got the main thing right now. I been workin on a solo for this kid thats nasty, plus his whole crew and im doin beats for 10 different peple right now.
Im gettin a lotta shit done right now. But my main focus is on this solo album im doin for one guy. He's one of my top 5 fave rappers. And he understands and respects my style of how i do my shit and we work perfect. Were still finishin up recordin this dope album (dope on the beats and rhymes). This is the music i been waitin to hear. The only thing i need help wit right now is, were gonna try to get this album duplicated and get the pamphlets and all that in it. So if anybody knows a inexpensicve way to get that done let me know.

Good luck with that stuff sha

I am moving to New york next month... (harlem or brooklyn)i have a cataloge of about 200+ tracks and still growing. My main goal now is to get my website up and find a good manager.

Baltimore sucks as far as hip hop is concenred

class...

Thanks, it's gonna pop off--the only delays that I normally have is that I like to have my paperwork straight before I even press record.

Moving to NYC??? You must really be trying to do this rap thing on a major level.
You won't have to worry though, because the IT market is lookin pretty good in Jersey,
NYC, and even Philly if you need to commute. Send me your resume (admin@anyresume.com) and I'll hook it up proper.

On the website tip, holla @ Fade, he designed illmuzik so he probably would help you out.
A good manager?? At the stage you're at right now, you can probably do a LOT just by networking and getting that beat CD out there and hittin the studios, but you're right- as you progress in the game, a good (connected) manager will take you places you never thought your music would go.

The Baltimore hip hop scene doesn't suck, it's just nobody reppin on a national level.
I'm good friends with a couple indie label CEO's who run their operations down here, push units out the trunk and internet, and drive that 3 and 1/2 hours up to NYC to hold meetings w/ the majors and do some side promotions. Nowadays if you're hot and if you stay on the grind, you'll definitely make some noise. Wish you the best bro, peeeeace

I'm workin on some tracks now for a local group here called D.A. Squad. There supposed to be doin a song with e ness and da bul Sparks from Sate Property. I asked them who does there beats and they said they just steal instrumentals and listen to the radio for producer's advertisin they shit....

I was like shiiit, I bring yall a CD. Hopefully one of them two cats will like some original shit, hop on it and holla baaaaaack!

Worldcity the funny thing about Philly is that everybody on the music scene knows each other some way or another, so once you get "in", then it's a wrap. Just do as many tracks for D.A. Squad as possible and keep hittin them with them Beat CD's. Them beat CDs will float into the hands of somebody with pull and paper and then you can make some moves. Don't know who your manager is, but if you get one that's connected round the city, especially if he/she is older then the boy will probably know EVERYBODY, just a thought.

Sha im sure there is some talented cats in b-more, im not denying that. But the hip hop culture here is all fucked up. Remember im lookin at this from a southerners point of view . Compared to how things are down south(local support etc..) Bmore just dont got it, cats hate to much.

Good lookin on the website info, but i think im good, im a software engineer, so im using my connects to get a great website desginer for free(im codeing the back end of his database)

Yeah, the South holds its artists down like the anchor on the Titanic! I swear to goodness the West side of B-more is the "Mean Mug Capital" of the world, people act like the sun don't shine at all in their hood, I totally agree with you on that but I'm more into indie film and soundtracks and I actually deal with more rock acts than any other genre of music.
More and more movies are being filmed in Baltimore and Bmore's indie rock scene is bannanas (b-a-n-n-a-n-a-s lol!) so I actually feel that I'm in the right spot, just like you feel NYC is the golden ticket for you.

Before they shut down Southwest Wholesales (distribution company), I SERIOUSLY considered moving down to Houston or Beaumont, TX --because an artist could drop a CD, hire a street team and tour TX, Louisiana, and Smoke-lahoma and really make some good side money.

Yeah, you're right about the free website design, I myself am also in the IT "game" (Senior Systems Engineer by day) and hook-ups are quite common, you'll get a great site especially if you're helping him out with his database.

Is it good practice to wait outside major studios and try to push your beat cd's to major artists recording there? ive heard cats who do that out here in L.A. i dont know if i wanna be a pest like that but if that shit works then ima be there at 12am. ALL the way in Burbank! What do y'all think?

No, its not good practice to do that. Artist are people too and believe it or not, some have not adjusted to having people run up on them waving CD's.
You WILL find some artist that are cool and accept your CD but its no guarantee they'll even listen to it.
The best way to do it is to work with different artists on your level and build a resume/discography, book studio time once you get your weight up and while you're in there get to know the interns and engineers --since they are always there even when you aren't. Once you get known people will start calling YOU to come to the studio, "Come down, Planet Asia, Roscoe, Ras Kass etc. is in the studio".
Remember these artists are your clients, they need YOU (at least you should think that way) Waiting outside is what groupies do, but if a homie of an MC passes him a CD, he'll peep it quicker and may holla back. Hope it helps peeeace

I'm looking to get more into the live music thing, beats with live keys/violins/mcs. Either juggling two copies of a beat on the tables, or playing it off of a drum machine while cats improvise.
Just played out on Saturday, first a dj set, then live with two musicians, nice refreshing change from staring at waveforms on the computer screen. Playing as a group instead of solo is a lot of fun too.

Sitting on about 50 unfinished beats and songs right now, need to go through them (edit/arrange) and get them out to the public, but have a problem with fucking around with new shit instead of going back to the old joints and letting them go. I am telling myself this is the year I'll get an album out, got instrumentals joints i worked on with a kid in Connecticut, hip hop project in the wings with a Brooklyn MC, and this live music thing. Gotta stay focused and strong to make this thing happen, it's easy to give in to the exhaustion (two kids/day job), so my boy recommended I have some tea or coffee after the kids are sleeping, we'll see how that goes.
Good luck to all in your pursuits.
