Someone knows how I could Isolate my room on a budget??

I just got a computer in my room, but the way my house is done, all the room are really close, so i can only make music on headphones, it's not really a problem cuz i'm comfortable doing it this way, but i'd like to hear it on speakers to.

Some one knows tips on how to isolate a room on a budget?? I know that you can take the paper thing that comes with a dozen of eggs and put it on a wall, but can someone give some good tips?

If your trying to acoustically treat a room to retain certain atributes like coloration and character but trying to eliminate pesky lower end and low freq rumble then you need to get some wall tiles...do a search for acoustic foam on google and youl get a ton of options....Just be aware that some companies simply sell just the same cheesy shit that you can obtain at yer local flooring or fix it store rather then specialty foams that actually are made to absorb certain frequencies....

Then theres foams made to only stop noise which is what it sounds like your asking about...Its important though to seperate these kinds of foam from the others becuase these foams wont assist your studio in a flat response, but rather just kill noise as needed. It can even be bad if your room ends up being "too treated", or too flat......the challenge is to still retain the characteristics of the room, but in the process eliminate unwanted refractions and reflections.....


If this is out of your league though, you can always hang some rugs on the walls and see if that suffices, just be aware its not going to be nearly as effective as a foam kit.

i'm not sure theres a way to isolate you room in terms of sound escaping unless you blow out the drywall and install acoustic foam in the walls etc...

but if you want to dampen the room a little try this:
...a method mixed from what i've read in magazines and my own common sense...

plywood or particle board. take some thin foam (the kind you can get on a roll at hime depot and/or some carpet. cover the plywood/particle board with it/both via a staple gun. hang these panels on your walls. also egg cartons are supposed to work.

to isolate a room you need to decouple it from the other surfaces i.e. floating floor / ceiling and thick ass walls etc. big expensive job. not really happening on a tight budget. you can do basic acoustic treatment on a budget though. use bats of hermal insulation. place it on the side walls and between the speakers. use a mirror to define the positioning. sit in the listening position and have someone move a mirror around on the wall. when you can see the tweater in the mirror, thats where you place the absorbtive material. on the back wall you want diffusion not absorption. but yeah, isolating a room and treating it acoustically are two completely different things. egg cartons aint doin beans.

if you mean to record vocals. just put your mic in a closet. the clothes will absord a lot of the sound coming from the outside.
