As classic said, i went to full sail...And seriously, i need to tell you all this topic has been started at least 10 times on this site, and I've reitterated this information 100 times. I will say this once more I guess...
Full Sail to me, was worth the money 110%. It has by far the best studio facilities in the country, and probably the world. It's a great learning environment. In the later classes, every student is provided with their own private studio room for labs and whatnot. So you dont have to deal with other students slowing you down etc. I dont know any other school that can offer that. So as far as your education and knowledge, it is extremely beneficial. i learned a great deal there and it provided me with the foundation I needed to work in the music industry.
The reason Full Sail and many other schools get bad raps is because the students that go, are fucking retarted!!! STRAIGHT UP...And yes, at least 75% of you probably fall in this category. Going to a school like Full Sail, you need to be ready to dedicate 100% of your life to music and achieving your career goals. The music industry isnt a field that you can just prance around half assed and expect to make a career out of it. It's stessful, time consuming, and probably the most exhausting career field imaginable.
My goals going into school were very clear to me, i wanted to make a career out of producing/making beats etc, but I knew that's like getting into the NBA. So i knew if that wasn't going to happen, then i would still want to work in the music industry and I felt like engineering would be an enjoyable fall back plan. Also, going to school helped my production, so even if you're trying to just do beats, an engineering school will definately raise your level of production.
The bottom line, is most people dont do the proper research before going to schools, and are quick to drop money and then later realize it wasn't for them, and then they have nothing but bad things to say about schools. This is a very specified technical field, so if you decided you dont like it halfway through school, you're screwed. Unlike with a general BA from a university, you have a wide variety of options after you graduate. Bottom line is to do the research, know what you want from school, and where you want to go afterwords.
After school i moved straight to new york to work in a studio, and shop beats. I had an internship at a studio, but they tried to screw me, so i quit. Then about a month later i landed a job with one of the top hip hop engineers in the industry, who i will leave unnamed for obvious reasons. I started last week and i've been working about 100 hours this week alone. you gotta be committed!! If you have any questions, hit me up. Peace
