Hi guys I got this nice sample that runs at 138 bpm but I want to slow it down to about 90 bpm so it can fit nicely for a hip hop beat.I am using Acid 5 but is there a way that I can slow it down without altering the pitch too much.

Thanks

I dont know if Acid can do that (well it probably can) cuz I'm using Cool Edit, but what you wanna do is called a time stretch... look it up. It should be in the effects or something like that...

Dat shouldn't be too hard in Acid. If this sample you have is looping go to track properties and find the no. of beats and you can double that number. that'll just double the length of the sample in Acid. If it's a sample thats not looping then it would be called beatmapped in Acid. If its like that go to track properties and change the bpm field to what you want. Holla if im off.

Slowing it down that much may make it sound like it's draggin'. Why not speed the sample up to like 150 bpm, filter it or something and set your bpm to 75 bpm with some bounce. Maybe do 16th notes with your hi hats to give it drive. just a suggestion.

I would say draw the sample onto one of the tracks. Slow down the tempo from 138 to where it sounds good. Once it sounds good, you can export that track as a wav, chop it, and play back the chops live over a beat, or just play them back without a beat, and records a beat over it later.
If you're up for it, just post a copy of the sample, then all of us can flip it.

Thanks guys I'll give it a try.Is there any other program you guys use to flip samples eg: pass it trough a soft sampler like Kontakt or Warp it in Ableton Live.

Just want to find a quick way so I won't stop the beat process ya know

If you choose beatmap in the "Track Properties" you can hit preserve pitch... Then screw with "Original Tempo" to make it fit...

Yeah dude it wont sound right when your trying to slow something down that much especially without changing the pitch too much.....is it even possible realistically to change the bpm without changing the wavelength of the sound wave. Frequency is picth and pitch is equal to the speed of sound times a constant divided by the wavelength. When you change the wavelenght of something the frequency (pitch) has to change

Realistically? Not really. theoretically? Not really. Technologicly? Yes. There are a bunch of programs and hardware that can do, but once you start trying to do extreme changes like mentioned in this post, you get a lot of digital artifacts that reduce the quality of the sample. And not in a good way.

If you ever come across Propellerheads Recycle 2.0....this program is great for altering and choping samples. It has a good timestretching feature on it too.
