Simple Beats

O.k. to be honest synthesized beats and big produced beats (Puffy)is one of the things that is killing hip hop, you are seeing more and more producers going to simple beats (Lil john, Track Boyz), some of timberlands beats and he is complex might be good but they don't make your head nod into whiplash, who gives a fuck how many instruments, or chords you play if it don't knock you wack, Compare Nottz Raw beats to the Neptunes or Kanye West, Nottz beats have more bump!! Some of ya'll with all your music and sheet music selves are not making hip hop it's something else,

the best beats in my opinion had only drums, a sample, and maybe a sinewave or bassline, fuck a piano concerto in the middle of a beat unless it's a sample like L.E.S did for that Mobb beat, or like Nottz did that Alicia remix. It was actually after the 94 era of hip hop when the triton and motifs and all the synthesized beats came along and kinda killed REAL hip hop,

dito!! Usually the people who say simple beats are better etc...
dont have the abitltiy to make complex beats. If u can make complex beats then u can make simple beats but not vice versa

class....

funny shit, It was just an opinion on what I like to listen too, Incarcerated Scarfaces was an example of the best beat I've heard, and many more are like that. everyone is different some people have problems with sampling they don't know how to chop and that sort of thing, some people can't play for shit, You are stupid to think there is only one way to make beats, and some people with musical backgrounds and piano lessons and shit when they were 8 years old, can't make a banging beat for shyt!

I don’t know if u were trying to attack me personally or not but I was just stating my opinion about beats. When it comes down to it, your gonna do what u do and im gonna do what I do. Ur right about some people not being able to chop samples, Im one of those people and im fine with that. Everyone has different skills sets and it would be foolish to say one style is better than the other cause its all hip hop.

What im trying to say is that alot of people who say simple beats are better dont have the ability to make complex beats and that’s fine. Just like people who say sampling is better usually don’t have the ability to play instruments and compose and vice versa. I am not taking anything away from samplers or simple beats cause like u said if its banging its banging Of course ur gonna back your style and say its better becasue that what u invest your time in

Now again like I said I was just stating my personal opinion and wasn’t trying to attack you. Hopefully u weren’t doing the same to me. But if u do feel the need to put our skills to the test we can take this over to the soundclick board and see who has the heat.

Be easy

that's cool with me homeboy! BTW if you've already reviewed somebody's shyt give someone else a chance, every beat I've posted you dissed, someone else might like a track, 395 posts since Feb. you got a lot of time on your hands homie for anything you take as a hobby, I work a good 9-5, have a girlfriend, fuck, drink, smoke, which is why I haven't mastered recording, and all my gear, you on the other hand is a college student (I presume) so you haven't made it in this real world yet, I'll be happy for a competition with you though, who would be the judge?

sorry for the childish antics or the direction this post went in, we can agree to disagree, different strokes for different folks, but I've noticed a lot about your style in your past posts which is available for everyone to check out, I was simply trying to let it be known you can go in different directions with your shyt, like I said before and my point most of the dopest producers cant read music, but I'm going to end this right now, cause we can go on and on even put a list of your favorite beats to my favorite tracks, sort of like software vs. hardware, point is useless, banging is banging!! we can go head up though!

that's your problem you wont be home for 2 days, my older material was not posted on soundclick for a batte therefore it wouldn't be fair to include those, let me gather the 2 to 4 tracks for this, and post them, to get a fair judgement, don't try to sneak me!

Look what ive started!!....Ok....When i stated at tha beginning of tha thread that i think that if u can make LESS = MORE that makes u a good producer, i didnt mean like thats tha only way to make a beat, or for that matter, Thats tha only pattern to follow that makes u a good producer.!..No, No!!...Not by any means!!...I really jus wanted to emphasize on what having a good ear can accomplish...Sort, of more in Mr Mess's direction of thought in tha comment he made earlier.....Cuz i make a variety of beats ranging from head knock, to zone tha fuck out and smoke a doobie and that all comes down to jus how i feel that day when im in front of tha computer...But im not really sure who said it was better music to be able to produce a track in tha matter???...

That better shit was a reaction towards sygma but in my reply reacted on several posts not only at you deuce. But I know what you are getting at Deuce and i do agree once you evolve as a producer it becomes easier to make more out of less!
But on the other hand we could go all out in a beatbattle HAHAHAHAHA..

Yea i think eveyone is on a consicious that thier is more than one way to skin a cat. Casue i do make pretty complex stuff and then i hear a beat like grinding and im like DAMN!!!! I guess its what is in your heart.

I aplogize for gettinging off topic with the thread, my reaction had nothing to do with the actual topic, it was just they way i was addressed. Plus we havent had a battle since ive been hear at illmuzik. It should be fun!!

Anywho someone give me an example of a raw ass simple beat. My fav is grinding but im open to other stuff

ok, enough about the battle. wait for the thread to get made and discuss it there.

as far as the topic....

well, good beats are good beats. end of story. producers sometimes forget how much an mc and the song itself impacts a beat. anyone ever heard "whoa"? people talk about grindin and all, but this beat...

loops straight through the entire song. i personally think black rob could have gotten WAY deeper and doper lyrically, but the concept and the final product was pure heat. if i were to enter this in a comp, people would tell me how i need to add a break and a chorus, etc.

what about "day one" by ditc? yet another ditc classic (whoa was a buckwild track, a ditc member)that is a straight loop all the way through. commons 1-9-9-9 was the same. they are just dope beats, period.

dr dre generally has things progress through the beat, although they are generally ubilt around one lead instrument and a bassline for the verses. even with the added instrumentation, they are sparse and leave much space for a vocalist.

the words 'simple" and "complex" take away from the real truth behind a beat- is it effective with the artist, and is it ? scott storch's beat for the roots "you got me" is a perfect example. you have the following:

drums, spanish guitar, rhodes, bass, and viola, and vocals hums- with various changes for the hook and a bridge/break at the end..

this song develops throughout and basically stands all on its own as a great piece of music. basically, this is the song that has influenced my whole style. if anyone has heard my beats, there is always something different for the hook and there are often minor changes that occur during the beat. thats my preference, my style generally. i have beats taht are basically empty except for the hook and i am told that by those who hear them.

if i am making a beat for the sake fo the beat- ala RJD2, then, yeah, its good to have changes and a lot going on, because people bore easily with a straight instrumental. but you have to remember, when making beats for an mc/singer, you have to take that into account. thats what will make or break the actual song- does the beat and the artist work well together?

there is no best or better in this case.. there is what is best for the particular song and/or artist.

to me, that basically sums up the whole issue. therefore, i am closing this thread because Cold the Wise has answered the subject perfectly.

just kidding. i do think i summed it up though.
