ok, the term "hoodwinked" was kind of a joke.....

but i got screwed on my cpu. i settled on an athlon 1800 @ 1.8 ghz (figure i can upgrade later, since i got windows xp office, and a ton of other things that i couldnt get elsewhere, for the price, delivery, etc.....

but the chip turns out to be a 1.53 and the motherboard only holds 1 gig of ram (i wanted more) so.........

i was wondering, is this still solid for running, say 10 midi tracks and 5 audio tracks on cubase sx with effects? i plan on selling the motherboard and chip and getting an athlon 2400 with a good motherboard ($210 and dropping because of the new chip that came out...... ) or the usual pentium 4...... anyhow just wondering if i should be concerned with an immediate upgrade or if this will be solid for the time being.

*ithe midi will all be vst, everything will be vst instrument wise, so that is very taxing on cpu power....

Hey,

Boy o boy...

Back in '99 I built a PC which had a PII-350mhz, 128mb RAM, 16mb video card, 13gb hard drive at 5400rpm, ata 66...

In Cubase VST 3.6 I could run about 20 tracks of audio with effects, a soft synth (Rebirth), and MIDI tracks. My machine started to bog down a little during real-time playback, but it rendered the audio just fine.

The machine you have is probably 5 times faster than my old machine.

Don't get caught up in this 'I need a AMD Decathlon 1645XP mkII with 8 squillion MB of RAM and I need it NOW' thing, or else your computer will NEVER be fast enough because there is new stuff being released every day. Before you go out buying the latest and greatest, mess with the machine you have right now, you may be surprised.

Take care,

Nick

U EXCEED THE BASIC REQUIRMENTS 4 A DOPE AUDIO PC.
HERES SOME TIPS THOUGH,
1.]MORE RAM = LESS TIME LOADING & PROCESSING AUDIO
2.]YOUR PC IS GOING 2 BE DOIN AUDIO MOSTLY O.K, SO U NEED
2 REALLY FOCUS ON THE SOUNDCARD NOW, CAUSE THE MOST BASIC STUDIO SOUNDCARDS CAN RUN 128 MIDI TRAKS & 32 AUDIO TRAKS
AND 3.]FROM A NERDY SOURCE I WAS TOLD THE ATHLON W/Architect IS BETTER THAN A P4
