Sell Or Not

Now I got a bit of a seriuos question here. I purchased an RS7000 last week for £400 and first hand it retails at about £950. I'm new to producing, and was quite amazed when i got this machine. Anyway already now I'm conisdering selling it.

I haven't used it loads, but it seems that once i get my computer in a few weeks time its use will become obsolete. I wanted to use it for tapping out drum beats, but it has only two velocity sensitive pads and they suck:headbang: .

Wouldn't i be better off just buying an mpd pad and hooking that up to my computer? Also, alot of the RS's synth sounds suck too.

I don't want to use it for sequencing because its screen is too small, so intend to learn cubase. For sampling, can't i just do that all on my computer anyway? (with cd's, and i'll hook my turntables up to it).

I reckon i could sell it for more than i bought it for. Should i stick with it and try and learn it (and integrate it with my computer set up) or should i just cut my losses now and sell it?

Don't mean to bore you all with the long post, but I listen to some of ya'lls beats that were made on a PC and they are HOT. Also my desk space is limited and the RS takes up alot of it and i want to add a 61 midi keyboard it.

So really couldn't i just do everyting that the RS does on my PC? (i'd save quite a bit of money this way)

yes, i agree, if tapping out the beats is important than an mpd pad would be good, but i woudlnt use it. all you get is the pads and the biggest plus for the mpc is the sequencer.... its the best out there to be honest. i work with cubase as well, and its an awesome program. i say....

it sounds like you should get around $750 (your currency) for it, and i would invest that in something like Sampletank 2 to get you started. mine is arriving monday, and i will post a review for you next weekend sometime..... thats aroud $400 or so ($379) and make sure you 512 RAM because you will need it at about 8 tracks of audio with multiple effects, of course you can effect them and then render the files and replace them, kind of like resampling... anyhow, i would make sure you have a good cpu chip, p4 or an amd 2200 or better. you can get by with less, but if you can start with a higher chip the better you will be in the long run. also, try an get an 80 gig hd for it.....

Yeah, cheers for the help. I stuck the rs7000 on ebay today. My computer came on friday aswell: 2.6GHz athlon, 80gig hard drive, 512Mb RAM, dvd + cdRW. Now all i need to get is a 2496 soundcard, 61 key midi keyboard and a monitor then I'm done (hopefully!?)

Dont buy a controller board, try and find a vintage of some kind with usefull sound that you can use for productions. It's still a masterboard. Microkorg's are cheap too and would do the trick ( except it hasnt got the 61 keys ).

If I was you I would get the Korg microKontrol midi controler. (Its not the same thing that foremant just suggested,just similair name).
It has 37 keys tho and 16 pads. That you cannot only just bang out beats on but. Aldo control other things in what ever program you use. It also has sliiders and knobs given you complete control over software. Just google Korg microKontrol for more info and pics.

I know what your sayin, but both the microKorg and Kontrol have those annoying little minikeys, which coming from a keyboard player I don't think I'd like them.

I was thinking of copping a microKorg 'cos its got some nice sounds on it (plus i heard the neptunes use it lol). Haven't really thought of a vintage keyboard.

Got any models in mind?

I heard the RS is a sick machine i woulda kept that shit specially for 400 quid u aint wrong with that price.

plus when computers start crashing and losing files u gonna wish u had hardware, and the rs has a built in synth baord with all the functionality of a micro korg so u can do all that shit on the rs

Vintage controller with 61 keys are the Roland Juno 106, Jx3p, jx8p ( try to get PGxxx controllers with them). these are mostly pretty cheap and can still be found in mint conditions. Other nice material are the Yamaha SY-77 or SY-99 ( both digital ) or a dx7 off course. Korg has the DW6000 /8000 (analogue, digital memory ). These are just a few classics with midi implementations fit enough for a masterboard.

If your lookin for a good masterboard with weighted keys and midi theres oberheim, doepfer and fatar you should look into, and roland off course.

Novation has brought out a model called control 25, 3 octave with a lot of assignable knobs n sliders. Pretty nifty little thing.

Personaly I use a Juno106 and a CS1x as masterboard in the studio, I see the cs1x a lot in bedroom setups as being the masterboard.

Yes the RS is a nice machine, but look at it in my situation. Your room has got to double as mini studio, and work desk for uni. The RS takes up desk space, about the size of a technics turntable. It does NOT have a velocity sensitive keyboard, that sucks. The "mpc style" pads are sh*t too.

I hardly spent enough time with the machine to learn even a fraction of it, but the preset synth sounds on it sucked. Drum kits were nice, but the whole machine is a bit too "dance music" orientated in my opinion. I got mine second hand, but if you bought it first hand for just less than £1000 you would expect a little more from it right out of the box.

I heard alot of people thought that alot of the sounds on the motif were gonna be on this box, well they were wrong. As i feel the motif sounds superior to the RS but they complement each other as a sequencer and a synth combo.

I sold it primarily for the reason of money, but i also realised that everything I can do on that machine I can do on a computer. And the computer comes with a nice big colour screen, not a dingy little green one.

But don't let that put you off an RS lol

You didnt say you were gettin the MPD, did you just miss it or your gettin that keyboard instead?
