I have never experienced anything of the sort. Anyone can listen to anything on soundcloud, on web, mobile and app without registering.
Networking on SoundCloud will make you a better musician. The talent there is just way better

If someone sends a link to a particular song my iPhone will let me listen without signing up but if its a link to an actual account it won't let me listen without being signed into it or FB. It's not just soundcloud, soundclick is weak too but in case u haven't noticed I'm a little vain and therefore enjoy having a fully custom built VIP site. No hokey accounts for this girl no matter how ghetto the site is lol I will shoot u a link to my soundcloud when I make it this week. I'm not a big networking fan in general I feel like the time spent on all these sites is the most valuable asset lost, more time in the studio=better musician

Everyone talks about it like its a dinosaur lol I honestly haven't experienced anything detrimental to my music popularity, actually it's doing pretty damn good. I just made it and in 2 weeks have a little under 3500 plays without barely promoting it so I can't complain. I have already broken down and decided to use soundcloud in addition to soundclick as my primary account. So plus one point for Soundcloud! ❤
