Sampling wav,mp3,cda?

First off I wanna say thanks to yall Ive been moving along very nicely with my first steps into production thank all yall. I got a question for yall, is there any way for me to take samples from my mp3 or wav files I mean if im listenin to a old al green track (mp3 format) and i feel I like a part of the melody is there any way for me to take out just that part of the melody any programs or equipment I can use?

use a software app like soundforge or cooledit to cut the sample, then import it to the sequner your using

Audacity is a good freeware program also. That's what I use.

Audacity is cool but has nowhere near the flexibility or functionality of Soundforge. If you just need something cheap and cheerful to slice up MP3's or WAV's, then Audacity will do the trick. If, however, you want more functionality and effects etc go for Soundforge.
