I am drunk at 11 am so please excuse the incoherent-ness of this post, and lick my balls if you disagree.
My favorite artists do not sell a whole lot. Why is that?
We have 6 Billion people on earth. 3 billion are either too young or too old to buy music. So we have 4 billion left....
Subtract 3 billion for the non-hip-hop listening citizens of Earth. 1 billion left.
Of that billion, about half are in prison. And they're white and on welfare (just ask Mikelabz). with
500 million people left, about 400 million are buying either Techno, Country, Rap, Nelly, Chingy, or Cash Money.
with 100 million people left to support my favorite artists, about 70 million do so by downloading their music.
The remaining 30 million are divided as such...
20 million that WOULD support their music are too busy planning for their children's futures, donating money to the poor, homeless, tsunami victims, etc..., or they are buying too much incense to buy my favorite artists music (this point was brought up by someone else earlier... I forgot who, I'm sorry, props props dap dap)
10 million people... 8 of them are closet mainstream buyers, so they get the newest shit, then buy a 3 year old copy of "Reflection Eternal" or something.
2 million people.... where are these sales??? and why are MY people a minority in this thing? WE NEED MORE EDUCATED LISTENERS!!! At least some that have a sense of appreciation for music. Alas, we are secluded to a backpacking sect with guava nectar, tofu, herbal remedies, and Starbucks coffee.

When you look throughout time, I don't know of any top-selling single that didn't have a hook. I know "Triumph" by Wu Tang didn't, but I wouldn't consider that top-selling anyway. Everyone from the Beatles, to Elvis, to Willie Nelson, to whoever the fuck else, they all had hooks. They all were versatile, to an extent. They all pushed plenty of units. A+B=C
I heard somewhere that Vanilla spICE went 18+ platinum.... eighteen-times platinum.... that's scary. I'd be willing to bet that everyone here hass a mother, aunt, priest, or local barber that has that cd...
