Rome's Exorcist Gives Inside Look at Devil

Some of the mystery surrounding the devil and exorcism is being unveiled in a television and Internet report series, detailing the work of the exorcist of the Diocese of Rome.

Society of St. Paul Father Gabriele Amorth, Rome's exorcist for the past 21 years and a specialist in the figure of Mary, explained in the first edition of the series how he performs exorcisms.

"I go to one of Rome's churches, to a parish that is closed during the day," he said. "There is Mass in the morning and then the church is closed. There I perform the difficult exorcisms. I always work with seven to 10 people who help me, and use a small bed. Sometimes we need to tie people down or simply subdue them."

With Christ, the priest said, it is possible to overcome the devil: "The exorcist acts in the name of Jesus and with the strength that comes from Jesus."

Is he real?

The first question Father Amorth addressed in the report is if the devil exists: "I respond with the words of John Paul II, who was once asked this question: 'Your Holiness, I find many bishop who don't believe in the devil.' And John Paul II responded: 'One who doesn't believe in the devil doesn't believe in the Gospel.'

"The devil is an angel, and therefore, a pure spirit created good by God and who perverted himself because he rebelled against God. Therefore, he maintains all the characteristics proper of a pure spirit, such as a very large intelligence, immensely bigger than ours."

The devil is pleased by the way he is generally represented -- with wings and a tail, horns, as a bat, etc. -- because these images make him seem ridiculous and help people to believe that he does not exist, the exorcist reported.

Medical or spiritual

Father Amorth suggested that diabolic problems be separated from psychiatric ones; and to do so an exorcist is needed in every diocese to help in discernment.

"Normally when a person experiences these conflicts and problems, the first thing he does is see a doctor and psychiatrist," he said. "It is very difficult to distinguish the devil's action from a psychological problem. The person goes to a psychiatrist and after years of therapy obtains no result.

"Then he begins to suspect that the problem is not a natural one and goes to a conjurer from whom he obtains even greater harm. This is what normally happens. At this point, it is possible that someone more experienced in these matters suggests an exorcist."

Our Lady

The exorcist confirmed that Satan's great foe is the Virgin Mary.

He explained: "On one occasion an exorcist friend of mine asked the devil what most hurts him about Our Lady, what most annoys him. He responded, 'That she is the purest of all creatures and that I am the filthiest; that she is the most obedient of all creatures and that I am the most rebellious; that she is the one who committed no sin and thus always conquers me.'"

Father Amorth affirmed that on some occasions, God forces the Prince of Lies to tell the truth, however, the devil's main struggle is to make man fall into sin.

"To lead man towards evil is to make him fall into sin; this is the devil's preferred activity and we are all subject to it from our birth until our death."

According to Father Amorth, Mary is a key figure in the fight against the devil's tricks, especially since she herself was tempted: "Mariology is my field and I have often been asked if Mary was tempted by the devil. Definitely. When? From her birth until her death. But she always triumphed."

Demons are real that is true , thus the other side has GOT to be real as I see it.
Not a big fan of the catholic church as they have done some of the more evil things during recorded history
even the current pope was a nazi youth.(although you could look at that as the refomative powers of the church!)
Not a big fan of organized religion at all in fact right now as it just seems a way to make tax free money and buy yourself a big house/jewels/and a benz.
But that being said I dont HATE any christian as that would be opposite of the word itself.
Dont recall Jesus chrging 10.95 for a copy of what he said that day in the middle of a field which didnt require a "building fund".
I hate the devil outright though.Hes a scary cat in more ways than we can imagine.

I am also not a big fan of organized religion, and especially the catholic church.
The "exorcist" has a vested interest in the fact that people beleive in "satan".
In the post he said it is Jesus that has the power to defeat "ssatan" but in the same post it says that "The Holy Mother" mary was best for the job. Which one is it?
The catholic church pays a lot of significance to the virgin mother, so I wonder if it is the reason they both get the mention.
The catholic church is the biggest contradiction to me. With its mass wealth it could save all the worlds problems, but it does nothing.

I've worked mental health courts and I think there is a definate difference between possesion and extreme mental illness.

No mental illness ever flushed my toilet by itself, nor did it make my recently deceased aunt appear to me when I was about 8. Nor does it explain my descriptions to my mum of a little old man who used to sit on the end of my bed talking to me. Or the fact that I could not sleep in my old front room and get a good nights sleep.
After leaving that house the nightmares stopped, and I never saw anything supernatural again.
As for anti psychosis drugs, they can be a bigger threat than the psychosis, especially when you try to stop taking them.
I know that schizophrenia and spirits are 2 different things, not the same thing.

on time that happened to me... compltely freaked me out. basically what happened is that i woke up in my own bed. It was a dream though, at least i thought it was, but it was way too real. I couldnt move anything but my head .. my body wouldnt move. In the dream(or whatever it was) I woke up on my back, which is weird because i sleep on my side. but anyways i was looking sideways at the wall. I turn my head towards the foot of the bed. and wtf I saw the bitch from "the ring" (well if it wasnt her it resembled her) looking dead at me. Im not talking some half assed hazy lazy dream type of thing either. I mean she was like RIGHT THERE staring right at me looking all fucked up in PERFECT detail. Like i could see the lines in her skin and everything. Her eyes were fucking glowing dark green and she smiled at me with some fuced up shit on her teeth that looked like black tar or something, like she had just been chewing tabocco. Im talking Like in super high definiton plasma hd blu ray type shit. I cant stress enough the detail in which saw her. It was realer than than a dream, i have never had a dream like that about ANYTHING where something was so close, so vivid, and i dunno, so THERE. I looked away, and the crazy shit was when i tried to look back at her i couldnt. its like some force was stopping me from looking back at her again. I couldnt move my body at all. Its like she was controlling me or something. I then woke up in exact same position in which i was during the dream to the point where it was difficult to tell if i was dreaming or not. FUcking freaked me out for real. The craziest thing is that i saw the movie like maybe 2 or 3 months before that happned and I didnt find it scary AT ALL. I had basically forgotten about it. So its not like this was some repressed fear i had for the bitch in the movie. I dunno know about demons devils and possessions and shit, but that shit was fucking wierd as hell and i will never forget it. its sounds funny or even ridiculous if ur just reading it, but it wasnt funny at all. I was freaked the fuck out. I didnt go back to sleep that night and had trouble sleeping for that whole week. ive seen the movie again after that. and nowhere in the movie does it show that girl in the amount of detail that i saw her in. and it still wasnt scary. so i dunno where that came from.

Some say, when you dream your soul leaves your body; sometimes you wake up when your soul is still partially outside so you can't move your body 'cause your not completely in it.

I've had that happen lots of times but I never saw no bitch from "The Ring", fuck that! I'd shit my pants!

What I had was lying there just like he said , a grl I was dating was lying next to me and everything, I wasnt asleep or awake, it was as if I could see thru my eyelids almost, but it was looking at my surroundings on a different plane of existence.The colors were different and the dimentions of the room were different, but it WAS the room.The detail was exact but "different". Again I was NOT asleep , I was letting my mind ...wander..as it were. Thats when I got to thinknig about astral plane and people leaving their bodies in spirit and all that and wondered if this is what they meant.So I started to sit up to see what would happen.
Thats when I noticed at the foot of my bed something that looked just like one of my brothers friends, I knew it wasnt though.Sorta like in natural born killers when they show the word demon underneath woody harrelson while they are with the indians and shit I knew that thats what it was so I just froze.
It wasnt looking at me at first it was just staring , then it turned its head and looked at me and said" you know what? Sometimes its just nice to.....FUCKING LICK IT UP!!" lol I have no idea what that means but it prolly aint good .
At that moment this fucker lunged at me and grabbed my throat and was right in my face.Its other hand was pushing on my mouth HARD.I just closed my eyes and started praying knowing that my God could beat up his God and thats when I went back , as it were to here (this plane).
I opened my eyes and like I say my gf was laying there in the exact same position my head was shoved hard into the pillow still and my lips were hurting.
I have NEVER let my mind go there again.

In my last apt my gf and I were in the kitchen arguing abou the lack of breakfast when behind us one of those cd label appliers suddenly slammed on the table and started spinning insanely fast like a top.
I was like do you see this? And of course she did. When it stopped at last it wound up on the small cd hole size part instead of the larger base as you would think gravity would have it do.That was freaky.

We had shadow people a couple of times in the apt, and the bed would shake at night.Knockings bangins.Shit moving , this is all with people wittnessing it .lol
