I play the guitar a lil but look where can you find some good RNB sounding samples and riffs like the fillers you hear in a lot of RNB? I know I could probably sample some but I wanted to know if there is any sample packs that might have the same kind of fillers and riffs....

I dont know I know most R&B you hear has live guitars in them or they have somebody come in and play guitar they sample them and lay the sample out on a keyboard and re play it themselves. I have a bunch of acoustic guitar riffs but I dont like how they sound. Nothing sounds as good as a live guitar.

Also, many R&B singer/songwriters play guitar and just write their songs accompanied by their guitar.

Hey,

I don't know what sample cd's have good guitar licks on them, most of what I've heard aren't very good anyways.

You already have the tools to make your own, this is what we do for our guitar patterns:

We plug an electric guitar into a mixer channel and play for 10-15 minutes at a time, just messing around and finding neat patterns and riffs...while playing, all of it is being recorded into Cool Edit as a big ass wave file.

Then, we drop the wave file into the MT, load up a drum loop on another track and stretch it out, and make cut up cool parts and rearrange them in time with the drums, making new patterns that we never though of playing ourselves or doing stuff that would be impossible to play.

If we're feeling brave, we put some of the riffs in a track that has an echo effect loaded, and other riffs into a dry track, then mix them down together without the drums.

We then open the mixdown in the EV and save out different selections as individual files to load into a sampler or a track in Cubase.

This could be done exclusively in Cubase, but as I'm very quick in CEP, I use it instead.

Take care,

Nick

Hey,

Yeah, that's why we do it for such a long time, because we're not very good at playing guitar (yet).

If you have access to a wah-wah pedal, record yourself playing through that as well. If you don't have the coordination to strum and rock the pedal at the same time, have a friend come over and rock it for you while you play, you will come up with the funkiest stuff in no time.

If you don't have access to one, you can use filters or plugins in your sequencer to emulate them.

Take care,

Nick
