i dont know about ribbons for hip hop ...... there good for recording instruments like brass and strings... if you do that the thats cool but most hip hoppers are workin with keyboards and samplers so i dont see where u would really have use for them ...

I wouldn't recommend a Ribbon mic. From my sound engineering class my instructor warned on using them a very good amount. The sound is definitely old but it may not be the warm sound you are looking for.

They are very very delicate as you seem to already know, if you drop it than it's over, period!! It would just suck to drop some money on somethin like that an then have it break easily.

Just my .02.

if you do get one, dont turn on the phantom power to the microphone. The DC power will break it.

okay that looks pretty good but a G??? LOl those 100.00 items are add ons for the mic...so if you wanna shell that out maybe its a good buy but it becomes a budget thing then.....most people I know running a studio making records and getting income would think twice about spending that much on a mic, and they prolly gonna go the shure route at the top end(for mid level or so shure) spending 5-600 $$$ for a good enuff mic in a basement or home studio...
