records standing the test of time

peace yall,

the discussion in the JD thread has brought up a question i'd like to throw out there that i beleive would generate some interesting answers. what artist and songs do you beleive will stand the test of time, and still enjoy 3 years, 5 years, 10 years from now. what do you beleive is the life span of records nowadays? Peace.

I really dont know what artists will have that longetivity because only time will tell

...but I can say that the life span of records nowadays is very short cuz these Record Companies are abusing the hiphop culture by pushing whatever is bringing in a dollar regardless of how garbage it sounds

I think that the classics that came out in the mid to late 90's will stand the test of time more than anything coming out now...I mean you had Wu, Nas, Big, Pun, Big L, Jay. Those are the records that are gonna last...I mean...they're all close to if not 10 yrs old now and I know mad people that stay bumpin those classics.

Anyone that grew up in the New York area knows that this was the golden era in hip hop...
I mean you could put on Hot 97 at any given time and hear: "Who Shot Ya"(BIG), "Street Dreams" (Nas) and "Liquid Swords" (GZA) back to back to back. Then at night I remember the show where Funk Flex introduced the world to Nore DMX and Canibus...and they "freestyled" (I use that word loosely) for like an hour....Bus killed em....
Point being...is the music from that era has already stood the test of time...shit that comes out now...is pretty much generic....there's always exceptions...just speaking in generalities.
