RAM memory problem

guys I need your help.

I want to upgrade the RAM memory on my computer (HP Pavilion 7945) but HP's web site seems to display some wrong info.

"Your computer has the following characteristics :

- BUS frequency : 400 MHz
- 2 available DIMM slots
-RAM memory: 128 Mo SDRAM (expandable to 512 Mo)"

I could be wrong but I don't think PC SDRAM DIMM 400 Mhz modules exist. I think I need DDR SDRAM PC 3200 (400 MHz) instead...

Am I right ?

The best thing if you don't know take it to the shop
let them do it or call a computer store

call support give them model & serial number of your pc then they will tell you what you need. or check your pc manual. the type of ram you need should be in there.

The manual is standardized for several computers and is very unclear.
HP's hotline is always busy. ;(

Also in order to have access to the memory slots I'll have to take away the fan, Floppy and CD-Rom drives and IDE. So complicated !

Like i said call a computer store and tell them what computer you have and what you'll tryin to do and they will give you information for free

You don't need DDR memory, HP never makes their computers with DDR capability, they always (as far as I know) use SDRAM the cheaper more popular memory type. I could be wrong but, just to be safe, pop open your computer making sure to touch something metal (to release any static charge from your hands), and take out the existing memory then shoot down to BestBuy or Circuit City or any computer shop for that matter and match it up with what you need! To be certain about the maximum amount of RAM your computer will take just look in the manual. If you take the entire computer to the shop their going to charge you at least $60 just to tell you something you could have found out yourself with a little research. Either that or find one of your computer nerd friends (lol) to help you upgrade your computer.

I went to the computer store and they told me I need DDR modules...
quality ones cost 100/150 EUR apiece... since I need two that would cost me 200/300 EUR + 30 or 60 EUR to have them installed....I give up !

So you do need DDR? Interesting, well see if someone you know can install them for you. Good luck!
