i just got my pc back but the thing is it is far from fixed..its crawling with viruses and malware that i cannot remove even after several attemps and it went from a distraction to completely shutting off my audio even when all my settings are correct...since my computer is pretty much back from being wiped out than reformatting the hard drive is a good option for me to take to remove everything and start fresh...but before i do this i wanna make sure with what i am dealing with...i know reformatting removes everything but is it to the point where the computer is non functional and ill be worse off than i am now or will it be like a brand new pc with only stuff in it??

if you're doing it by way of a fresh install of your OS then you'll most likely be good. If you're just wiping it clean by any other means then you'll have a useless computer. Let you're initial installation disk do the wiping....if you do it yourself you'll need to know some serious computer skills to get everything working again. You'll need drivers for each and everything in your computer amongst a bunch of other shit that you won't want to deal with.

Thats gonna be trickier since your gonna need a cracked version from somewhere then, and ive noticed that cracked OS's always seem to have some kinda loophole that makes things very difficult in the end. The OS is like the one thing you absolutely should shell out some coin for IMO.

i do a clean reboot every 3 months or so. it keeps everything fast and fresh. but i also keep all my important files on an external hard drive. there are ways of making an os disk once you get your settings the way you want. and there is also the tool windows has of turning back the clock to an earlier date of your os if you ever make any bad decisions and your comp starts acting wierd. if you need an os PM me. let me know if you have a internet connection that you could use to get it. it will take awhile to download.
just make sure you have all your drivers for all your hardware and whatever else you might have. *which probably could be found on the net too*

To my knowledge NO - I think Dream is just advocating you buy a Mac as far as I can tell....lol...
@ Dream - This is true for now, but I feel like were jinxing ourselves every time a mac advocate says theres no viruses so STOP!!!....haha. Its only a matter of time IMO. Lets just hope it doesn't happen any time soon becuz I love my mac.

you have to be a beginner / noob to get viruses. either that or your addicted to porn and dont know what to click. i have a pc with no virus protection or firewall up and i never get anything. i even download tons of torrents and such. plus i dont keep anything on my comp harddrive thats important either.. everthing is always saved to external hard drives. in fact i might even get a smaller internal hard drive than the one i have now (250gb) maybe a smaller faster sata, so the reboots are faster.

there are already known viruses out there that attack mac os....that's the reason why Apple is no longer advocating that statement. They've also endorsed a few anti virus software. I have one of the best one's out on my MacBook. Can't remember the name of it off the top of my head because I seldom boot into my mac OS. I only use my Mac for DJing and I use Virtual DJ on my XP side of the MacBook. Virus's do indeed exist out there for Mac...bottom line. The virus making geeks and hackers just go after "the man" so to speak and Microsoft is "the man" to them mostly. They're getting around to throwing bombs at Apple....

"i have a pc with no virus protection or firewall up and i never get anything"

If you have no antivirus you will have nothing that indicates to you that you have a virus. I would put $100 on the table that if I scanned your machine right now I would find loads of spyware and virus's.

"there are already known viruses out there that attack mac os....that's the reason why Apple is no longer advocating that statement. They've also endorsed a few anti virus softwar"

I don't think that it correct, name one mac virus that caused any sort of wide spread damage? OSX is a inherently more secure system because of its unix (BSD) roots and how it manages users is considerably better.

Also

"Oh, alright, here we go again. First of all, 16% of computer users are unaffected by viruses and assorted malware because they use Apple Macs, not 4%. Wouldn't a hacker gain the greatest glory by creating the world's first virus for Mac OS X, instead of virus number 119,587 (or whatever it's up to today) for Windows? Why not collect the $500 prize for proof of the first Mac OS X virus? There are zero-percent (0%) of viruses for the Mac OS X platform that should, logically, have some 16% of the world's viruses if platforms' install bases dictated the numbers of viruses. The fact that Mac OS X has zero (0) viruses discounts "security via obscurity." There should be at least some Mac OS X viruses. There are none. The reason for this fact is not attributable solely to "obscurity," it's attributable to superior security design.

The reason why some desperately (or ignorantly) cling to the "Mac is secure because it's obscure" myth, is Stockholm Syndrome with a generous dollop of Cognitive Dissonance thrown in for good measure. It might make Windows sufferers feel better, but "Security Via Obscurity" is a myth. The continued repetition of the myth could also be borne of ignorance or a desire to spread fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) to keep Windows users in the fold. Security concerns have become a major reason for people switching from Windows to Mac OS X. The New York Times' David Pogue explained all about Mac OS X's superior security versus Windows over two years ago when he admitted he'd fallen for the myth here.

Still not convinced? Try this one on for size: according to Apple, there are "close to 16 million Mac OS X users" in the world and there are still zero (0) viruses. For five years and counting. According to CNET, the Windows Vista Beta was released "to about 10,000 testers" at the time the first Windows Vista virus arrived. So much for the security via obscurity myth.

Could Mac OS X have vulnerablities? Of course, it could. Would Mac OS X ever inflict even a tiny percentage of the damage Windows' pervasive use has inflicted upon the world. No. Mac OS X is designed to protect the user. More info: Top 10 Mac Security Benefits (pdf)."

Chris...lmao...You've always had that "I'm always right syndrome"....it's cool though!

Though there are not a gazillion viruses out there that attack Mac they do exist. You're rationale for "assuming" why hackers don't attack Mac's is not correct. Mac's haven't been and will never be as popular as a PC with a Microsoft OS on it. The cost plays a MAJOR part in that. My MacBook fully blown out came to around $1600...I just bought a Quadcore with vista 64 desktop for $400 plus tax...IT AIN'T HARD TO TELL!

Though a hacker would be glorified all around the "hacker underworld" for creating a "Mac killing virus" they'd much rather go after the OS of choice for the masses and that's with out a doubt Windows. Hackers tend to go after "quantity not quality"! The more shit they can F' up the more glory they get. Damn near every household contains a PC. I probably can knock on every door in my neighborhood and ask them do they have a Mac and the answer would more than likely be NO.

It is what it is boy genius....lmao j/k Chris!

I believe the reason why viruses aren't as prevalent on Macs is because there are very few pirated software out there for them. All in all Macs Os is the safest Os out there....there's is no doubting that!

Part of the Mac appeal to new computer users is that they are (or have been) virtually free from viruses. Since the large majority of the population uses Windows, hackers design viruses and worms to attack PCs to get more bang for their virus buck. And although there's no reason to panic just yet, researchers have found a virus that can attack your Apple computer now too.

It's not like there haven't been viruses designed for the Mac before, but this one, called iBotnet, has been successful at wiggling its way into thousands of computers around the country since January. And once the virus makes its way into your system, your computer will then be part of a large network which can be controlled buy the virus's author. How can you avoid this virus?

Thankfully, a large majority of Mac users won't have to worry about this virus, since iBotnet is contracted by downloading pirated versions of iWork. So if you don't want iBotnet on your machine, you should steer clear of any extracurricular file sharing activity!

IN CONCLUSION....lmao.....Once or if ever there's a multitude of pirated software released out there for Mac viruses will become prevalent in there world 2!
