Question for MPC1K

i recently got the 1k and im just startin with it. i have a problem-- when i chop up a sample to differnt pads and then record it. when i try to add another track to it, it cuts off the sound of my sample. can the 1000 not handle this or somthing? help me out, thanks

if you are slicing a sample up it automaticllly makes the program mono in which the pads all cut each other off. you ahve to change the program type to mono, but then you will have to go set up mute groups so the pads that you want to turn each other off will. Some of my words may be off since I don't have my MPC in front of me, but you can fix the problem you are having.

good looks on this...so i go into PARAMS and then switch from POLY to MONO next to Play: ? or next to
Voice Overlap:
Mute group:
Mute target:

and do i have to assign mutes to each pad?
im still havin trouble.
im messin around with differnt things, changin it to mono..nothins workin.

when you make the switch to poly all the pads should bleen on each other but thats at the top of the page. When you change the mono or poly on the pad if affects the pad you are one. When you set the mute group it affects the entire program. I use to mutes to turn off the other pads when I trigger the next sample

I know this probably doesn't have anything to do with his question but the last comment got me wondering.

How Exactly do you configure the mpc1k to turn off the sound of another pad when its triggered?

Do you change the poly/mono setting? or do you have to do something with the mutegroup/target?

You have to go into params of the prgm that you plan to change and set each pad to MONO. then set each one to a mute group. (like mute group 1).

Think of it this way since this is basically the definition:

MONO = 1 Voice, or only 1 voice can sound at a time, so if you play the same sound on the same pad very quickly - say at like 16 tripplets every time u press the pad again you arent gonna get overlapping of the same sample, its just gonna cut it off and replay it from the start.

POLY = More then 1 voice that can be sounded at the same time. What this means is if you have a sample on a pad and then u repeatedly do the same thing, its going to keep playing the whole sample ALL the way through over and over till all cycles are done and the voices are all gonna overlap.
