What about on "the lowend theory" album? I thought they used live drums and bass for that.

"my man RON CARTER on the bass" - Q-tip

Ron carter played all of Tribe's basslines for Low End Theory.
I would go with the SP-1200 as well, for the sampling (horns and stuff)

"This one goes out to my man
Thanks alot Ron Carter on the bass
Yes my man Ron Carter is on the bass"

" To show Tribe's appreciation for jazz, they punted the traditional, computer-generated basslines, and instead asked legendary jazz bassist Ron Carter to record with them for The Low End Theory. "

"They were helped considerably by jazz bass player Ron Carter (who had worked with Miles Davis and John Coltrane), whose contribution rather dominated proceedings. Tracks such as "The Infamous Date Rape" stoked controversy, while samples from Lou Reed, Stevie Wonder and Earth, Wind And Fire were used in a frugal and intelligent manner."
