Man I heard somebody say Primos beats are old and done almost 15 years ago..WHAT...I think it was Classic....LOL man you don't know your history....do some listeing to his simple beats thats the foundation of Tru Skool and some new skool.....nothing to do with old or stale or putting a time on his stuff.....I even hear a lot of underground now coming back to Pete Rock type patterns and usage of basslines etc...a lot of this shidd out today will never touch Primos simple beats...period....go back and do some listening to his use of samples....AMAZING come on man I am sick of these cats that just found a drum machine and some software constantly having to minimize some of the foundation producers....hes a legend...leave it alone......James Brown was a legend, do you hear anyone criticize that....not really .........There is not a whole lot you can do with a hip hop pattern to keep it like that and the feel.........really......M.O.P , premo and Gangstar did a lot for what we hear now ...so you can't miniminze any of that because it has a great influence on the music people are making right now.......
hop over to a couple of Sites that do real hip hop.....usually about 90% of what you hear is...SIMPLE beats...LOL that's just how it is......thats the foundation and its unfortunate but thats the way it is....I mean make some beats that are um......not simple....raise the bar yourself and don't criticize so much thats all I say........because like I have said once unless you got some plaques up on the wall you can only be so critical.....because sometimes what you criticize might become a trend or someone exploit a weakness and it becomes a new style...think about it.....Marley Marl said it was by pure chance and mistake when he did his first sample based beat with a sample......and if Producer X or Stra or anyone Storm....is anywhere around please tell them about the History that MOP and Daddio told....and they grew up with Cool Herc back then.....ok man I am calming down thatz all I had to speak on....

That post was spot on man...Premier and his affiliates laid down the foundations for a very significant portion of today's hiphop, and without him hiphop would not sound the way it does today [which, arguably, could be a good thing..lol]. Anyway, whats wrong with a little simplicity every now and again? Premo's stuff is straight to the point, and I'm sure eveyone can understand the signature sound he has made for himself by being like that.

rigormortis why do you wonder what he would sound liek if he wasnt sample based. Thats not how he does beats....He uses samples..im sur eyou process all your synth sounds and drum sounds from scratch...im sure you up in the studios micin up drum kits ..and tweaking your own instruments.....

@bigd: was that directed at me? if so i dont understand why you are stating some obvious things and what the hell it got to do with my remark, you are defending things i never even touched? calm down with the caffeine, speak on but dont speak without a tongue it sounds like useless mumbling ;)
If it wasnt directed at me I take what i said back and let the person who you are trying to get a go on speak for himself.
general remark heheh: And i am not attacking premo, he is a nice guy talked to him once when he was over here with guru...
@dmiddlez: mistake, actually i dont use synths, almost never, 99% percent of what i create is created with samples, i am addicted to diggin...
why do i wonder you ask? one who never wonders never learns..

@Rigor....did you read my post?......really? LOL I mentioned Classic....some other folks like to minimize primo's production too....the other thing people just view him as a producer....but he is also a master DJ....I just don't like hearing the great criticism and almost seemingly veteran feedback and criticism dished out around here lately...when in actuality no one here is really worthy to be that critical of anyone else....and particularly some of the legends that laid the groundwork and provided the hints and formulas for what we do now..thats all...a lot of what we do now is emulate anyhow but our methods to come to the same sound is made much easier from technology so its easy to quickly point at something and say oh thats too simple or thats not hard I can easily do that....follow me....????? theres so many patterns and styles that you might think are new if you haven't been like me....listening to Stuff like Jungle Brothers and De La and Pete...when they were the FIRST to do it......if your ear ain't grow up hearing it....then you don't have anything to compare and when you hear something today that peeps are like thats hot or thats fresh....when a lot of times its not.....its just been redone a tiny bit different....the real hip hop generation unfortunately was in the 90's....most of the innovation and basis for what you hear right now was done then.....
